Lovepedal JTM

Got a request for this one. It's another Electra-derived overdrive, this time meant to sound like a Marshall. This should be an easy fit in a 1590A.

  1. Excellent!!! ohhh my god!!
this is better with 5k Log??

    1. No, use a lin. It's controlling how much signal for the emitter is going to ground. It's not a volume control.

    2. Thanks so much!! i waited for this layout!!!

    3. Add 100k log at the end of the master volume, and use the pot in the Gain layout.

    4. The pot is just a hand-rolled 2K rev log if I'm reading this correctly. This version of the circuit is really nice. I need to try some different diodes, but I already like it a lot more than the Champ from last week.

  2. Hello, i used 2n5088 transistor, how i can dial sound with him? Thank you)))

    1. Check your build for faults and then with an audio probe if that doesn't work. If it's still not biasing correctly, play with the value of the 3.3k resistor going from the voltage rail to the collector.

    2. Thanks for helping with, i check with variable resistor but still fail, i heard clean sound after dialing up resistor but it too scilent((

  4. You can verify it.
    I've built it with a 5817 diodes
    Works great
    Thanks

  5. I've built it with 2N5088 and germanium diodes, works great....Thank you so much for this layout...

  6. Hi, works great with bc549. Mounting the pot soldered over the PCB, it should be placed on the traces side, right? Thanks for your great work! Regards

    1. Yes, mount the pot from the solder-side of the board.

  7. Build this one and I really impressed by how good and simple it is! Just got a problem of "squealing" when turn the pot all way up! Any hint to fix this "squeal"??? Thanks in advance!!!

    1. Something similar here, perhaps placing a resistor (330R like in the Lovepedal Champ) in series with the pot would fix it.

    2. They all make that sound, I thought it was a scratchy pot, but it makes that squeal because the pot controls the bias. The Lovepdal does the same.

  8. Any ideas on how to add a tone control? That’s the only downside of this pedal.

  9. how can i use it with bass guitar, is there a substitution for some parts?

    1. Typically you just increase the value of the input and output caps (47n and 100n respectively).

  10. do you know any replacement for the bat46?

    1. You can use pretty much any diodes you want, though it will probably sound a little different than an original. BATs seem to have a fairly unique sound to them in my experience.

  11. Is it ok with a 10k Bias pot ? 2n2222 transtor? Thanks mate

    1. Try it and see. It's just a modified Electra Distortion circuit. It's pretty forgiving and versatile.

    1. You can use any transistor you want. This circuit calls for 2n5089. These have pretty high gain. I would suspect you need at least hfe600. Thats the determining factor if you want it to sound like a What is was made to sound like. Diode wise you can also use anything. It prolly won’t sound like what love pedal was trying to do.

  13. I build this great, mod: 1Bk Lineal this is more versatile and knob is better

  14. Hey guys, i have a problem to fix. My Poti has 90% no function, only the last 10% has an affect on the sound. I have checked the board serval times and all values are the right. Maybe someone has an idea how to solv it. THx

    1. You could swap the pot out for a reverse log taper pot (C5k).

  16. It works, it's alive!! I used a 550B transistor, 4004 and 1N60 Ge diode and it works! But the funny fact is that it reminds me a Fender overdrive, not Marshall.

  17. It works, the drawing is good. I built a few pedals from the drawings here. Thanks for them.

  18. It works nicely, I hear a big pop when turning it on, any idea on how to solve this out? It's a really loud pedal btw.

    1. Might need to increase the value of the input pulldown resistor (1M from in to ground) and/or add a pulldown resistor at the output (100k+ from out to ground).

    2. Thanks! I´ll try it and comment.

    3. So I removed potentiometer because I thuoght it was not working properly, and the pop dissapeared and also lowered the volume quite a lot. Works much better now, I guess I had a wrong soldering because the pot works fine.

  19. Is there a good way to add a volume control? I love it but with the knob past 3 it’s more of a boost than I’d like.

    1. Yeah, just use a 100k pot and wire the Out pad to lug 3. Lug 2 becomes the new out, and lug 1 goes to ground.

    2. Thank you! Will this change the tone or simply just bring down the output?
