JHS Little Black Buffer

Here's a simple buffer from JHS. It really only uses one side of the opamp (why not just use a TL071?) and the extra resistors on the other side are just to meet the manufacture's specs for an unused side. I couldn't find a schematic for this one, but drew one up from lvlark's vero layout. I've added polarity protection and extra power filtering to the layout.

  1. I just finished this little guy. Works like a charm! :)

    1. good job bro, can i ask about the ic what is the replacement of TLo72?

    2. TL072s are extremely common. I guess a 4558 would work too, though probably not as cleanly.

    3. 4558 is better to me, is very clean

  2. Hey, I'm pretty new to pedals but though a buffer would be a good place to start. I understand everything except understanding what pins of the IC to use on the upper schematics. Since they aren't labelled how do you know which pin is which?

    1. Google TL072 pinout. Should clear things up for you.

  3. Hi man!! Thanks for the info, only one question, how can I add a led to the circuit? To make it like Jhs? Thanks and I'll be waiting for your answer.

    1. Run a 4.7k resistor from 9v to the anode (+) of an LED, and the cathode (-) to ground.

  4. one more question, can i use TL072cn instead TL072? and what type of caps do you recommend?

    1. Yes that'll be fine. Film caps are probably best.

    2. Thanks man! You're the best! greetings from Cholula México!!

The last one!! Which buffer do you reccomend for fixing Volume Pedal Tone Suck?

    3. the Klon Buffer is my personal favorite

  6. Hi!!! A doubt (sorry for my questions, I'm a newbie) the 10uF and 47 uF caps are polarized?? The marked side is the positive or negative? Thank you so much man!! You're the best!!

  7. i already build this little buffer, but the volume is too low =/ what can i do wrong?

  8. Yes, the volume is too low In my case too

  9. Hello, how are you? I'm trying to put this buffer in a loop box, but very POP when it's added to a 3PDT circuit. What can it be?

  10. Is the buffer between the input and the switch or after the switch?

  11. In various positions I have POP.

    1. You could try putting a pulldown resistor at the output of the circuit. There's already one at the input (tho you could try increasing its value). Have you tried using a different switch?

  12. hola amigos, de que punto puedo sacar una señal para poner un led de iluminación para avisar que está encendido el pedal??

  13. I have a problem. When i plug in the power suply the pedal sounds for about 1 second and then the sound diez. I checked the PCB and soldering and everything seems to be fine. Any advice about that?

  14. Mine works but it adds noise. Maybe once I box it it'll be better.

  15. No work. Only make very noise and no sound.

  16. Which resistor can i change to increase the output volume? can you please mark it in the schematic?

  17. Hi. Thanks for posting these valuable plans. I have a question about components. I can see a 47uF capacitor in PCB layouts but i can not see it in schematic. Other thing bugging my mind is i look up for other schematics and layouts for this pedal but other plans show 470R (470 ohm) resistor instead 47uF capacitor. Can you clarify these points for me? Thank you.

    1. The 47uF cap is for power filtering. I'm guessing the 470Ω resistor is tacked on to the output after the 10uF cap similarly to the Klon buffer.

  18. Hello just asking if what is the voltage of 47uf and 10uf in the circuitry

    1. whatever more than 9V, I usually use 25V for those ones.

  19. it uses 072's because the PCB shares the same layout as the buffered splitter.

  20. Which Resistor value do I need to change to increase the output volume? the volume is less a little bit.
