This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Rift Amplification EL34

Almost didn't draw this up since it's just another Electra variant, but they almost always sound good, so why not? This one claims to emulate the sound of EL34 tubes, which sounds like marketing gibberish to me since it's just a diode-less Electra. Originals are all hand wired, point to point, floating in the 1590BB enclosure. Super cool looking, but a major labor of love to produce, hence its hefty price tag. This will fit in a 1590B, but has 2 footswitches, so the drill template reflects a zVex-style of layout. Schematic and cool teardown vid on FSB here.

  1. Hello, can i ask you to layout an old 80ties onboard Guitar Varitone Booster Circuit originally build in B.C. Rich and Fernandes Guitars on Perf or PCB?. I'm not experienced enough to do it by my self.I'm building a Mockingbird Style Guitar and want it to be as original as possible. The only existing schematic is this one...or that i could find.

    3. stupid me again...i also forget to mention the 2 500K linear Pots are the Volume pot for the Booster and the other for Master Volume and the 500k log is Master Tone. I guess for you it's self explanatory. And for the induction dummy coil? The thing where 1000 mh is written you can use a TL021 Transformer (one half of it). i read originally there were cheap Xicon Greenies as capacitors built in. Sry if i hijack this Layout Thread for my request. Now i'm done i guess. I hope you can be so kind and find the time for it.
      bye

  4. Works as intended. I would have liked a bit more gain however at the end of the day it is a overdrive pedal. Very transparent pedal. Great work, thanks once again.

    1. Ceramic. Apparently ceramic caps are better for power filtering than film.

  6. Not bad, I had a pre drilled case with the right amount of holes so threw this in it. Doesn’t sound bad, makes my twin twelve sound like a twin twelve, The el34 hype is hilarious. It distorts and compresses output a bit in boost if I don’t roll back the gain a touch, anyone else have this problem? Didn’t check voltage at the emeitter but all my 5088’s I have left are close to 500hfe so I didn’t socket it, maybe that’s my problem. Anyone try a 3904, 2222, 4401 or other out of curiosity?

    1. Welcome to the hobby! If it's not mentioned in the layout, you can assume you don't do anything with it. Check out the General Layout Notes for switch lug numbering too.
