Mid-Fi Electronics Demo Tape Fuzz

Here's a pretty unique fuzz from Mid-Fi. Built around a dual opamp, the Demo Tape Fuzz recreates the sound of a guitar being played directly into an old 4-track cassette deck. It features a 2-band EQ in addition to the Volume and Trim (gain) controls. I've laid it out for board mounted right angle PCB pots mounted from the solder side.

  1. Is LM4558N the same to JRC4558?
What would be the best to replace it?

  2. Such a cool circuit, I want to build one again. Your layout looks perfect.

I wonder how it'd sound with switchable diodes in the feedback loop... :)

    2. Any 4558 should work. JRC, TJM, KIA, etc.

  3. I just tried building this and when testing before boxing up, I get signal through the circuit but no effect. So the volume pot does its job but there is no gain, treble or bass control. Any ideas why this would happen?

    1. I was mistaken, all the pots work, except gain. I can control volume, bass and treble, but I can't get any gain. Any ideas on this?
