Way Huge Red Llama 25th Anniversary Reissue

 Happy New Year, everybody!  This one recently got traced over on FSB. The 25th Anniversary edition of the Red Llama has an added hi cut tone control, but also has a few variations from the original circuit. The hi cut itself is just a basic cap/pot to ground tone control, the minimum gain resistor on the first stage has been reduced from 100k to 91k, and the 2nd stage feedback loop resistance has doubled up from 1M to 2M. Double Llama

Had a request for 2 Red Llamas on a single board, and my initial reaction was, "Just build two," but since there are 4 unused hex inverters that could easily be used for a second Llama, my reaction changed to, "Why not?" lol Designed to fit in a 1590BB, but might fit vertically and sideways in a 125B.

Way Huge Conquistador

Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone! Last fuzz of 2019. Here's an interesting fuzz circuit from Way Huge based on the Tone Bender Mk. III. It uses PNP silicon transistors, but is a negative ground effect. Schematic available here.

Way Huge Tone Leper

This is a rare one from the early 90s from Way Huge and is based on the Craig Anderton Frequency Booster. Stock it gives a mid range boost (800Hz), but that frequency can be altered by swapping the 2, 22nF caps:

220nF - 90Hz (lows)
100nF - 200Hz (low mids)
10nF - 2kHz (mids)
4.7nF - 4kHz (upper mids)

Way Huge Drive/Geisha Drive

The Geisha Drive (or just called Drive sometimes) was a limited run overdrive from Way Huge and is a great sounding circuit. It uses a quad opamp to form an input buffer stage, gain stage, followed by some hard clipping and a modified BMP tone stack, into the volume pot, followed by a gain recovery stage. Should fit nicely in a 1590B with the pots board mounted.

Way Huge Fat Sandwich

"Way Huge" not only describes their enclosures, but also many of their circuits! Not quite as big as the Pork Loin, but still a monstrosity in its own right. 1590BB unless you wire all the pots offboard, then it'd fit in a 125B ok. Schematic and all that jazz here on FSB.

Way Huge Pork Loin

Here's a really big one to kick off the week (might be the biggest dirt circuit I've ever laid out). The original Pork Loins have the Clean Tone, Presence, and Drive Mix pots internally, with 3 internal pots internally, and I've gone with the same configuration here. Way Huge Purple Platypus

Here's a bit of a rarer old school Way Huge circuit from the 90s. It's essentially what would happen if a Red Llama and a Foxx Tone Machine had a baby. Original thread on FSB here with schematic.

Way Huge Green Rhino Mk II

Here's the newest version of the Green Rhino from Way Huge. It's similar to a Tube Screamer, but with a few extra stages and lots of modifications. I've laid it out for board mounted pots in a 1590BB. Here's the schematic for reference.

Way Huge Saffron Squeeze

Here's Way Huge's take on the Ross Compressor. This is based on an original from the mid 90s that was traced over on FSB. It will fit in a 1590B with side mounted jacks or a 125B with top mounted jacks.

Way Huge Swollen Pickle Mk 2

For Fuzz Friday here's the newer and highly tweak-able Swollen Pickle from Way Huge. Like the Mk 1, originals use a MPQ3904 transistor array instead of individual transistors. Couldn't make that work this time around, so just stick with individual 2N3904s. Originals also have 2 of the controls internally, but what's the fun in that? All 7 pots are for external mounting and the whole thing will fit in a 1590BB with top mounted jacks fairly easily. Here's the schematic for reference. You'll notice a few values are a 10th of typical values found in a Big Muff (indicated by an * in the layout below). Not sure if it's a typo on the schematic or just the way Way Huge did it this time around. YMMV

Red Llama + BMP tone stack

I drew this up last month on a whim, built it and it actually sounds pretty good. It's just a Red Llama with a Big Muff tone stack tacked on to the end. Ripe for tweaking to your own taste, especially with the values of the tone section. I changed the values to give boosted mids, but those are easily changed (consult google for different tone stack values), and I used 47n caps instead of 68n and 33n that are normally in a Red Llama (only because I have a ton of that value in my parts stash haha).

Way Huge Swollen Pickle Mk I

For Fuzz Friday we have the original Swollen Pickle from Way Huge Electronics. One of the unique things about this Muff clone is the use of a quad transistor array instead of 4 individual transistors. This makes for a quieter pedal and more consistency in transistor matching. However if you don't feel like tracking down an MPQ3904 or NTE2321, you can use 4 individual transistors. Just note the pinout in the layout below.

Way Huge Red Llama

The Red Llama by Way Huge is a great tube-like overdrive with plenty of output. I've drawn 3 layouts–one for every typical Hammond box! The 1590A layout uses 9mm pots which you should be able to board-mount. The other 2 use typical 16mm pots. Make sure to use the unbuffered CD4049 or else the circuit won't work.
