EHX/JHS Big Muff 2

Happy Holidays, everyone. This one seemed like it needed laying out before the year came to a close, so here's the new EXH/JHS colab, the Big Muff 2. It's an op amp based Big Muff that's not like the typical ICBM, but uses 2, 4558s in 3 soft clipping configurations into a BMP tone stack. Schematic on FSB, should fit in a 1590B. Happy New Year!

EHX/JHS Lizard Queen

 Happy Fuzz Friday everyone! You probably didn't miss this collaboration between Josh Scott and Mike Matthews, and because of the old school style of the big box version, it wasn't to hard to trace. There's still a few things we don't know about the circuit, so have your sockets handy if you put this together (see notes below). There's some debate over the touted originality of the circuit, as it appears to be a Bazz Fuss into a Tim Escobedo PushMe PullYou, but do your best and leave that discussion to the forums. FSB trace thread for reference.

Notes:

• Q1 is a large can (TO-39 by the looks of it) transistor. I doubt it's germanium, so I assume it's something relatively low hFE like a 2N1711. I'd try out 2N2222A, 2N3904, 2N5550 and see what works/sounds best. The transistor types listed in the layout are an assumption based on the PushMe PullYou.
• D1 appears to be old stock of some sort, with orange and green color bands. I would assume a 1N4148 will work just fine here like in a typical Bazz Fuss.
• C1 is a small ceramic cap, value unknown. I'd start experimenting with anything between 100-470p.
• The 10uF cap off lug 2 of the Balance pot is an assumption based on the PushMe PullYou. It could be as large as 100uF as it's the same size axial capacitor in the original as the power filter caps.

JHS Haunting Mids

The JHS Haunting Mids is an EQ circuit that controls the mid frequencies along with giving a 10dB clean boost. From the JHS site:

The Mids and Sweep controls work very closely together so you can find the perfect frequencies to boost or scoop mid frequencies. When the Mids knob is at 12 o'clock, no frequencies are boosted or scooped.  Turning the Mids knob to the left of 12 o'clock will begin to scoop out midrange frequencies, while turning the Mids knob to the right of 12 o'clock will begin to boost midrange frequencies. The Sweep knob controls the what frequencies will be affected.  Sweep knob to the left will cause low-mids to be affected, while Sweep knob to the right will cause hi-mids to be affected.  The Lo/Hi toggle is like a "Q" function and controls how sharp the frequency peak is that you’re affecting with the Mids knob.  "Lo" is a softer and wider peak for slightly subtler affect as you tweak the Mids/Sweep knobs.  "Hi" is a sharper and steeper peak giving you a very pointed and defined effect as you tweak the Mids/Sweep knobs.

Should fit nicely in a 1590B. Schematic for reference.

JHS Angry Charlie V3

Here's the newer version of the Angry Charlie with the 3-band EQ. Pretty much the Crunch Box with a 3-band Baxandall tone stack (similar to this) tacked onto the end. Pots are board mounted and it should squeeze nicely into a 1590B.

JHS Charlie Brown V3

Unrelated to the Angry Charlie circuit, the Charlie Brown emulates the brown sound of a JTM45 amp and is a variation on the zVex Box of Rock without the boost section. The input stage is an AMZ Mosfet Booster (replacing the SHO input stage of the Box of Rock to avoid crackle in the gain pot), and the tone control has been modified to include the AMZ presence control.

JHS Angry Charlie

I've gotten a few requests to redo the MI Audio Crunch Box with board mounted pots. How is that relevant to the Angry Charlie you ask? Well, it's the same circuit. JHS added a cap in parallel with the existing cap coming off the Presence control to ground which tames some of the highs. So if you want the Crunch Box, just leave that cap out.

JHS Twin Twelve V1

Here's the original Twin Twelve from JHS. It's an emulator of the old Silvertone 1484 amp. Like a lot of amp emulators (including their Superbolt) it uses JFETs and an 18v charge pump. The schematic can be found here, and I added the charge pump from JHS's Superbolt. Set the trimmers to around 9v and the adjust as need be. Pots are board mounted as usual and it should fit in a 125B with top mounted jacks nicely.

JHS Honeycomb Deluxe

Here's JHS' Honeycomb Deluxe tremolo. Or something close to it anyway. It's a modified EA Tremolo with an extra switch to control speed and a extra footswitch to switch between speed controls. Ian McDermott came up with a work-a-like for it, so this layout follows his schematic. This layout features board mounted pots and because of the 2nd footswitch I've laid it out for a 1590BB enclosure. Also this is laid out for film box caps like these, though others will work just fine.

JHS Little Black Buffer

Here's a simple buffer from JHS. It really only uses one side of the opamp (why not just use a TL071?) and the extra resistors on the other side are just to meet the manufacture's specs for an unused side. I couldn't find a schematic for this one, but drew one up from lvlark's vero layout. I've added polarity protection and extra power filtering to the layout.

JHS MiniBomb

Here's a simple clean boost circuit built by JHS. It's really just the Tim Escobedo Duente JFET boost with a fixed resistor instead of a trimmer. Because of that you probably want to socket that resistor (5.1k) and adjust to the J201 you use. Or you can just squeeze a 25k trimmer on there like Tim designed it. Should fit in a 1590a just fine.

JHS Superbolt

Here's a popular JHS pedal that emulates old Supro/Valco amps: the Superbolt. It has a remarkable similarity to the Run Off Groove Supreaux and Supreaux Deux. It seems to be a slightly modded Supreaux, with the high/low switch and 18 volt supply of the Supreaux Deux. A charge pump is also added so the pedal can run off a typical 9v supply. You can use an ICL7660 or MAX1044 in place of the LT1054 (though, if you use the MAX1044, be sure to ground pin 5). This one's laid out for on board pots as well as the SPDT switch. Be sure to bias the JFETs to around 9v, then adjust to taste.

JHS Morning Glory

The JHS Morning Glory is a modified Blues Breaker overdrive, but with an added JFET output buffer to increase the volume. The original Marshall circuits barely made it above unity with the volume maxed (see the video below), so the output buffer is a good improvement over the original. There's also a high cut switch to help tame single coils a bit. I wasn't quite able to get the on-board pots to be in the exact layout as the JHS units (the Tone control and High Cut switch are reversed), but it's close enough. You should be able to board mount the SPST high cut switch as well.
