This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Death by Audio Evil Filter
Here's an unreleased version of the Evil Filter. It's similar but not quite the same as the original. The schematic was pulled from a video interviewing DBA's Oliver Ackermann and was redrawn here. Some of the parts are a little pricey but the resulting sound is apparently amazing.

Awesome! I've been wanting to try this, but could only find a vero (which I avoid if there is a PCB version). I'll let you know how it goes :)
ReplyDeleteAlmost finished with the etched version. I'm a bit confused about off board wiring. Are Fuzz In and Filter In both going to Input ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThey're 2 separate effects on one board essentially. So you'll need 2 footswitches, one for fuzz and one for the filter.
DeleteAh, makes sense. The one in the video I watched only has the one footswitch, so I got confused.

DeleteI built this one (etched PCB version) a while back. Just found it in my drawer of non-working circuits, thought I should put a little update here. Unfortunately, it's not working (no sound when engaged and bad pops when it's turned on/off). Is there a way to upload a photo here? Maybe if someone sees an error, I can try fixing it so this layout could maybe get verified. I would love to get it working rather than stripping it for parts.

ReplyDeleteI am giving it a try, but does sombody know how to do the offboard wiring right? and what happend to the CV/expressionpedal jack? Where is it supposed to go?
ReplyDeleteWell I tried to figure it out by my self, get the wirig with the switches seems to be no problem (will see when its all soldered in) and i compared the vero and the pcb versions and it looks like the Expression pedal jack should go in the middle of the two 1k resistors which are in front of both H11F1's and and after +9V. ReplyDeleteTC and MAX are just different manufacturers of the same chip. The SCPA is supposed to be better though.
DeleteDBA released a while ago the Evil Fuzz that seems to be the fuzz section of this pedal. Is possible to extract that fuzz layout?

ReplyDeleteTo get this circuit work, 68k resistors after pin6 of the each H11F1 need to be crossed in accordance to the schematics(upper to pin13 od UAF, lower to pin14) - see original DBA schematics.
Has anybody figured out how to connect exp pedal?

ReplyDeleteHey to you and others trying to build this. Unfortunately this layout has some errors. One is mentioned above, that the 68k resistors that go to pins 14 and 13 on the UAF must be switched around.
DeleteThe other is that the wiring for the Fuzz Wave toggle switch isn't completely explained. Pin 5 of the switch goes to lug 2 of the Fuzz Vol pot and pin 3 is connected to pin 6. Also you will have a lot of whine-oscillation from the MAX1044 chip if you don't bridge pins 1 and 8.
Other than that the layout is a good base to build on if you follow the schematics that are available on FSB and do these modifications. Good luck!
