Marshall ShredMaster

Here's another one from Marshall's great pedal line from the early 90s. When it was released it was considered a high gain distortion, though probably wouldn't be categorized as such today. It was made famous by Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and covers more than just shredder territory.

  3. I made the PCB version of this one. I had to reverse legs 1 & 3 on the Level pot to get it to go ccw-quieter/cw louder. My build is hella noisy, too... But I'm thinking once it's in the enclosure with some shielded wiring it should be good.

Thanks for the drill layout on this one, too! Saves me a lot of time and screw-ups. I'm terrible at Photoshop! ;)

  6. This circuit sounds incredible! Perfect control over eq, break up seems to be pretty much perfect (not too much and not too little). Great design!

    1. That's probably a typo on my part. Those 2 resistors form the voltage divider, so as long as you use 2 resistors of the same value it will be fine. What's most commonly used is anything between 10k and 100k.

    2. Thanks a lot for your explanation ..
is there a way to increase the treble here?

    3. Yes, there is an error in layout - look here - correct schematic. Cut trace right after treble 2 pin (wiper) and solder it to pin 5 of TL072. Cut pin 5 of this TL072 from bias grid. Solder a wire from bias grid to the point where you cut trace after treble pot wiper. Voila - treble is usable. http://www.matsumin.net/diy/jisaku1/shred_m_mini/shred_Schematic_phnompenh.gif

    2. But also in the the original the r10 3k3 should go to ground but in this layout it id going to vref. It makes a difference if you test and compare on breadboard.

  10. Hello, just to be sure i edited original layout with your instructions, did you mean it like this? My edit of original layout -> https://ibb.co/X2Mgvt3
    Thanks for answer!

    2. Yes, it is extactly according to correct schematic. I've talked to friends of mine that builds pedal clones for living and that is 100% same as original.

    3. Amazing! I'm going to build this one, so your comment was really helpful, thank you :)

    1. Did you solve this problem ? Usually this pedal is too dark and some people change )at least) the c3 in cap to 100p, or 300 p etc... for more treble
