Lovepedal Les Lius

One of Sean's many Electra Distortion variants, the Les Lius delivers both Tweed Deluxe and Fender Twin tones. The 3-way toggle switches between different clipping options and the 2nd footswitch acts like a separate gain channel. I couldn't find much info on what JFET is used for Q2, but I would imagine any DSG pinout device would be fine (J201, 2N5457, etc).

Update 9/21/15:
Found several errors with my original layout. If you tried to build it before, my apologies. This updated layout should work just fine.

    1. Not entirely sure what your question is. The Boost switch is a latching SPST footswitch, so just on/off. Does that help?

  2. I can use a switch on / on to choose boost??
sorry, I 'm not good with English

    1. An on/on is typically a SPDT, which should be fine. Just ignore the bottom lug of the switch.

  3. Hi. Can I use to boost switch a DPDT with Led? How can i wire? Thanks.

  4. Which diode can I replace Bat46?
    Thank you.

  5. Is there anyone who did and works perfectly? It works for me, but Gain is not there and the boost does not turn on. There is another option, everything is fine there, I wanted to make a normal PCB. Thank you.

  6. The JFET is shown in schematics as a N-Type and I have seen people posting that they have used 2N5457, more in desperation than anything else I think. I reckon that the original chasing out of the circuit has a flaw in it. The JFET should be a P-Type not an N-Type. It is only a switch going from high resistance when its gate is connected to the +5V to low resistance when it is disconnected and is at 0V. N-Types don't do that, they need a significant -ve voltage on their grid to go high resistance. I have modelled the circuit in Spice and shown that it has the wrong effect with a 2N5457 in place. It works with a P-Type in there but the type must be carefully chosen to get a low resistance when on.

  7. It has still the "unverified" tag. Is there someone who built this successfully, without any problem? : )

  10. @Effects Layouts I only have DPDT footswitch for boost. Any tip on how to wire the boost?
Was planning to jumper the common pins (2/5) and one side where I connect sw1 (1/4 or 3/6).

    1. You don't need to jumper anything, just use lugs 1 and 2 of the DPDT and ignore the rest. Or you could use lugs 4 and 5 to wire an on/off LED indicator (lug 4 to LED- and lug 5 to ground).

  13. Hi!

How can I add a status led to the boost switch?

    Thanks for your work!

    1. You use a DPDT. Use one side for the actual boost function and then use the other side for the LED like you would with a 3PDT

  14. hello everybody!
I built the circuit and it works, I have some considerations about the schematic.
congratulations for the circuit it's a gem, let's go, about the jfet transistor I used the Bf245 c better would be the a or b, but I couldn't find it much less others like 2n5457, I've used it before in other projects without problems and it works, I replaced the 2n5088 with bc 550 the reason it sounds more open with more clarity and gain , invert the orientation of (ebc), about the diodes there was no bat 46 its replacement would be 1n5817 , however I realized that it was very veiled added to the 2n5088 , so I removed them keeping only 1 single 1n5817 in the clipping key which goes to SW 3 , in the SW 1 position replace it with 1n4148 detail only 1 because two saturates and it looks more like a marshal and not a fender, now the boost dpdt is functional, something like before with 2n5088 and 15817/1n5819 diodes didn't work, another detail that in the Sw 2 position now has a drive before the sound was clean, with these changes my perception is that the pedal sounds closer to the les lius, tweded 57 I hope I helped someone.
