This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

EMMA ReezaFRATzitz

The ReezaFRATzitz is a high gain overdrive/distortion circuit based around a CMOS chip, most likely a CD4069N or 74HCU04. This layout reflects a modded version by FreeStompboxes member thn.technik with added Bass and Mids controls. Here's a link to his schematic and build pics. You might be able to squeeze it into 1590B, but you'd probably be more comfortable in a 1590BB. This is not originally a true-bypass effect. As you can see in the layout drawing, there is a "Clean Out" and a regular, or "Effect Out." The signal comes in from the input jack directly to the board and into the buffer. From there a DPDT footswitch switches between the Clean Out and Effect Out. If you prefer true-byass, you can ignore the Clean Out pad and just wire this like you normally would. You can then eliminate the 150n cap and 470k resistor from the Clean Out pad. Here's a demo of the original:

    A for hFE 120 ~ 220
    B for hFE 180 ~ 460
    C for hFE 380 ~ 800

    1. B or C would be fine. That's for the input buffer, so really any medium to high gain NPN should be fine. 2N3904, 2N5088, etc. Whatever you've got lying around.

      I tried using true bypass but was quite whistle.
      I put a link to the original and was not whistled otimo more, some potentiometers are reversed.

    It seems the gain pot lies most likely on the 14th pin of the IC while on this one goes on the other side? Same goes with level pot...

    1. If you look at the 4069 datasheets there are several in and outs. This layout just uses different ins/outs than the vero. Still works the same way though and it's verified.

  11. I got not enough gain. I feel like chords are OK but single notes has some decay and feels farty even when bias at max, almost 8.62v. I checked all the values, any help? Increasing to 1m gain pot will increase distortion?

    1. Note to myself, after one week testing every component I found with an auidoprobe some weak signal after gain pot, wire 1 and 2 from gain pot were inverted. Problem solved. CD4069UBE rules after some MC14069.
