This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Run Off Groove Peppermill

Here's a nice transparent drive from Runoffgroove.com. Not a ton of headroom apparently, but has a nice bluesy tone. In the layout, Q1 is oriented for a 2N7000, so if you use a BS170 be sure to rotate it 180º.

  1. marking the pinout of the J201 is wrong ......... if using the J201 that marking layout need to turn 180 ° as it is DSG.

    1. have you built this one mate?
i've built this but seems not working well.
the red led, is it 5mm or 3mm?

    2. The LED is there to protect the MOSFET, so either one should work. (A 9v zener would probably be better) I seem to have labeled the pins wrong in the J201, but the orientation of the transistor is correct. It's fixed now.

    3. Hi, 1N4148 is a good Led replacement on this case? tnks

    4. No, but a 9v zener would be best. It's there to protect the MOSFET from static, not for clipping or anything.

    5. Hi, another question, how is the best way to add a simple tone control? Also I wish add hard clipping option switch. Tnks
