This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Mid-Fi Electronics Demo Tape Fuzz

Here's a pretty unique fuzz from Mid-Fi. Built around a dual opamp, the Demo Tape Fuzz recreates the sound of a guitar being played directly into an old 4-track cassette deck. It features a 2-band EQ in addition to the Volume and Trim (gain) controls. I've laid it out for board mounted right angle PCB pots mounted from the solder side.

    Is LM4558N the same to JRC4558?
    What would be the best to replace it?

    Such a cool circuit, I want to build one again. Your layout looks perfect.

    I wonder how it'd sound with switchable diodes in the feedback loop... :)

      Any 4558 should work. JRC, TJM, KIA, etc.

    I just tried building this and when testing before boxing up, I get signal through the circuit but no effect. So the volume pot does its job but there is no gain, treble or bass control. Any ideas why this would happen?

      I was mistaken, all the pots work, except gain. I can control volume, bass and treble, but I can't get any gain. Any ideas on this?

    Hi, Would you be able to use a TL072 here , or would the LM4558 equivalent nte778A be more suitable

      I'm guessing it should work. I breadboarded it with a LM358 while I wait for some LM4558s to arrive. It sounds good enough that I'm confident in starting to put it in perf board, with a socket of course.

    I built this one, it works pretty fine but the Trim pot does not work that lineal, at the last 4th of the pot it is noticeable the change in gain, the other 3/4 of the pot barely does anything, is this normal? I tried 2 different lineal pots.

    I used mounted pots and looks like on Eagle you placed them on the wrong side, so the drill template doesn't match. It was a headache until I noticed what was going on (first perfboard build). I just rotated 180º and it's fine, but bothers me aesthetically that pots are so low in the enclosure and close to the switch. The other option is to build it as usual but all the pots would work in the oposite direction (volume decreases clockwise). Thanks for the layout anyway :)
