Got a request for this one. It's apparently a modified Bogner Ecstasy Red, which is a JFET adaption of the Red channel on the Bogner Ecstasy amp. Since it uses 2 footswitches, I went ahead and designed the board for a 1590BB with all 6 pots board mounted. The boost switch uses one side of a DPDT footswitch (with the other side being used for LED indication). As usual, set the trimmers to half the supply voltage and then adjust by ear. This would be a good candidate to run off 18v as well. Here's the schematic for reference.
This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.
Now this is a kickass sounding circuit! I've made some using my own layout and once you set the trimpots right, it sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteIn what pedal you can compare this one? is this good for cleans only?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sir ! I was one of the people who made the request of this. Tomorrow I will be etching the layout and start building. Thanks for your time.
ReplyDeleteMade it and working perfectly. Thanks for your time on layout.
DeleteHow to add the Bass Channel switch?
ReplyDeleteConect the boost switch as a footswitch
DeleteHola Diego!
DeleteTag it verified. It's not my cuppa tea but it's going to a Marshall fanatic friend of mine . Thanks for the awesome layout
ReplyDeleteI Made it.
ReplyDeleteThis is Proposal.
Volume A100K is Best.
if Use 1M, Like a low pass filter.
Any mods to add more gain to this circuit?
ReplyDeletecheck IvIark's tagboard effects blog and read the comments on this build. There are some resistor swapping- mods there.
DeleteThanks mate, already try those mods but i still want more gain for chugga chugga. Haha.
DeleteHow should I adjust the trimmer?
ReplyDeleteMeasure the voltage going to the drains of each JFET and adjust the trimmers till each is around 4.5v. You may need to tweak it a little from there but it should get you close.
Deletewith an addition to that ; my suggestion is if you going to adjust with ear; to bias the trimpots while boost is on but structure is off and gain is between 12 - 3 o'clock. I am using this as a preamp with a small ir loader as my practice gear.Running the circuit with 18V.
DeleteThank you very much.
ReplyDeleteIt was helpful.
I think it's a very good pedal! !
Hopefully someone is still reading these posts.
ReplyDeleteI've built this and seem to be having some issues.
#1. in the absence of J201's I had to order SMD 201's from SB and use smd adapter boards. All went well. Also Running a shielded output wire from 3PDT to output jack.
#2. When trying to adjust the voltage on the drains (@9V) - here's what I get:
at Bypass (pedal off)/No boost/no structure
Q1 - 9.3V
Q2 - .8V
Q3 - 4.5V
Q4 - 4.3V
Q5 - 4.7V
Pedal On/no boost/switch off
Q1 - 9.3
Q2 - 4.3
Q3 - 4.5
Q4 - 4.3
Q5 - 4.7
Pedal On/boost on/switch off
Q1 - 9.3
Q2 - 4.7
Q3 - 4.5
Q4 - 4.3
Q5 - 4.7
Pedal On/boost on/switch on
Q1 - 9.3
Q2 - 4.1
Q3 - 4.5
Q4 - 1.8
Q5 - 4.7
Pedal On/no boost/switch off
Q1 - 9.3
Q2 - 3.8
Q3 - 4.5
Q4 - 1.6
Q5 - 3.8
When the pedal is engaged and either the boost is on/(and or with the switch on) - I'm getting a ton of squealing. The only way I can stop the squeal is to turn the "mid" pot all the way off.
I'm also concerned that Q5 is always at 9+ volts.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks, Dan
sorry if i double post.....but Dan did you ever get this pedal working?
DeleteHey Dan, I am feeding mine with 18v. That squelin had happened to another player before. He handled it with a boss fet input buffer. Simply put a boss pedal before input of the 7th heaven. İf squel stops, build one on front. And don’t forget to test with batteries. Power supplies can still be extra noisy.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! will give it shot.
ReplyDeleteI'm having an isue with the treble pot. If I turn it all the way down the volume increases 50% and tre treble content raises... Weird.
ReplyDeleteBuilding one now - since this is modeled after the Red channel on the Ecstasy, wonder if it would be possible to skip that last gain stage, turning it into an emulation of the Blue channel?
ReplyDeleteGoing by the schematic on FSB, that 22n just below the Structure switch pads should be 2.2n.
ReplyDeleteAlso found a possible way to jump one of the gain stages and put that on a toggle, effectively making it a Blue/Red option.
I will definately try this on my 3rd build. with adding a cab sim and DI-Line buffer for direct recording. Thanks for the heads up
DeleteDan did you ever get your 7th heaven working properly? I'm having voltage issues also
