This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteIf I have to replace 390pF, what would you recommend, 220 or 470?
Either is probably fine. Or you could put 2 caps in parallel to make your own 390p cap.
Deletehttps://www.allaboutcircuits.com/textbook/direct-current/chpt-13/series-and-parallel-capacitors/
Guess I have to socket and experiment :D
DeleteThanks buddy, awesome!
Guess that 4001 diode is reversed..
DeleteNope. Anode to ground, cathode to +9v... Standard polarity protection.
DeleteI used a 330pf and a 56pf in // .

ReplyDeleteHi. Is valid the LM386? Or the tl072, lm833,.. ?
Regards from Spain
You are the best!
Needs to be the 386. The TL072 or LM833 are a different kind of chip.
DeleteVerified! Such a simple circuit, but it's a beast! Thanks D!
ReplyDeleteFast work! Thanks Peter!
DeleteWould have had it done much earlier, but had day job responsibilities :) thanks for everything you do!
DeleteBTW- I didn't have any issues with it sounding too dark...May be my bs170's, but my advice is to roll with the stock layout posted, and go from there.
ReplyDeleteWait, BS170s?
DeleteBs170???
DeleteBS170???????????????????????????????? there's no transistor on this circuit

ReplyDeletecan I use the LM386 M -82
That'll do. In fact, I'm going to use LM386N :-D
Delete
ReplyDeletethan it differs from the 386D?
Sorry was thinking about a different build! Was also working on the deep six compressor at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI built it, it has low gain like the tube screamer. I thought I had more gain like purple plexi or guvnor.
ReplyDeleteHow to increase the gain?
What model of lm386? N1, N2 or N4??
ReplyDeleteNot one of the Ns. The D model
DeleteHi, what is the diference thru Ns and D on this circuit? I only can buy Ns.. tnks
DeleteSo from what I've gathered, there are 2 main manufacturers of the 386, National (LM) and New Japan Radio Co (JRC). National makes several variants with the N suffix, usually followed by a number (-1, -3, -4), and the JRC version is a more general chip. I've heard of the N-3 chip working in this circuit.
DeleteCan i use dioda 4002?
ReplyDeleteYep, that should be fine
Deletebut can I use LM386-N?
ReplyDeletefinished mounting the pedal, you can consider verified !!! is working and with beautiful sonority.
ReplyDeletegreetings from Brazil I will set up others with certainty
can I use other diode types to test different sonorities or does it only work with this model?
ReplyDeleteYeah, you can experiment with different diodes and find what sounds best to you.
Deleteif I replace the capacitors of 47uf by 100uf capacitors will it work with less noise?
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. If it sounds like you've got noise from the power rail, you could try adding a 10-100nF cap between power and ground.
DeleteI think that I have the same problem. This cap should be soldered in the power jack? I tried it, but didn't change a thing. What else you wold you suggest to lower the noise?
DeleteThanks very for your work!
Hi, Does the lm386m-1 meet the project? in datasheet its specifications are very similar ... since already thank you.
ReplyDeleteIt'd probably work. Use a socket though, just in case.
DeleteCan we add more gain to this one?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI built it, but it work similar to the noise gate :(. It fast cuts the sound. I used LM386L. Can you help me? Thanks. Sorry but i can't speak english so good. Greetings from Poland.
you have to use an lm386D or it wont work as well, i'm also polish and english isn't my first language either
DeleteCan I use an LM386N? I can't get a 386D
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteI finished this a few years ago, went back and made some changes following information on other diy sites. replace 22nf with 3.9nf, replace 47nf with 2.2nf. add 01 100r resistor at 9v input, add 01 100nf capacitor after 47uf at 9v input. now it sounds with a tone more like a jubilee (imho) and filters some of the noise. thanks again 😉
ReplyDeleteHi! You said you added a capacitor after the 47uF at 9v input. You meaned between the 47uF and the diode? Thanks a lot!

ReplyDeleteLM386L works great / Verified.
ReplyDeleteAmazing sound.
IMPORTANT: LM386D / LM386L / LM386-N1 OUTPUT = 1/4 Watt
OTHER LM386 TYPES HAS MORE OUTPUT (1/2W - 1W) AND THAT´S THE REASON THEY DOESN´T WORK THAT WELL IN THIS CIRCUIT.

ReplyDeleteVerified!! Only change I made was I swapped out the A250k with an A10k. Gives more control over the gain which was chaos with a A250k.
This is my favorite pedal thus far
Thank you so much for your layouts!
Good day. If I replace 47 Ohm with 82 Ohm, will the circuit work correctly?
ReplyDeleteHi all. Can i use a 1n914 instead of 4001? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThe 4001 is there for polarity protection, and the 4001 is better than a 914 in this application, but the 914 will work.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOk thank you. And could an LED work for that purpose?
DeleteI'd stick with the 914.
DeleteOk.
