This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

4ms Noise Swash
Figured with all the big layouts this week, I'd better finish it off with another big one for Fuzz Friday. This one's great if you like flipping switches, playing with knobs and making a ton of noise. Not all that complicated really, just a lot of controls for tweak-ability. The original 4ms design says to use a switched pot for the Self Oscillation control, but you can use a regular pot and a separate SPST switch instead if you want. Here's the schematic for reference.

I've always wanted to build this but I didnt want to lay it out myself nor use the tagboard layout, so i appreciate you doing this. Been checking this with the schematic and i see some problems with how you have the tl072, like pin 6 is connected to everything that pin 2 should be connected to, pin 1 and 7 have the same problem, a 1k resistor is missing on the wiper of volume pot. Might be more conflicts but yea
ReplyDeleteThe reason those pins are swapped around is because a TL072 is a dual opamp, so there are 2 identical opamps in one package. They do the same thing, so they're interchangeable. There's no difference in sound or performance. And the 1k resistor I just forgot. haha I've updated the layout with it though. Thanks for catching it.
Deleteoh shit cool thanks
DeleteIf you're down for it, another fun noise pedal to lay out would be the nocto loco, its another from 4ms. thing sounds nuts
ReplyDeletecall this a verified; i just need to theck the power and tone knob, doesnt seem to be making something, and the preclipping switch drops down the volume, a lot!
ReplyDeleteyeah, call this a verified!!! power and the tone knob both work great. just one thing: there should be a 100n cap instead of 10n on leg 1 of tone pot due to schematics.
ReplyDeleteMan, maybe you can layout Madbean Zero Point SDX2? I thinks many want to have it in their collection!
Just built this one - verified.
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first attempt at making an effect pedal, and i have a cumple of questions about the materials...
ReplyDeleteWhat are the 1uF squares? I know its a cap, but, what kind? I would really appreciate your help, thanks!!!
Film box caps. You can get them from Tayda.
DeleteThanks a lot!!
