This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Galactic Fissure

I thought I'd close out Synth week with a fuzz designed specifically for synths. (Fuzz Friday waits for no man!) This one is pretty straight forward and I don't have much to say about it. Schematic can be found here. I added a pull down resistor to the input in case some one builds it for guitar, as well as polarity protection and power filtering.

  1. I tried it on a protoboard thinking this was an effect for getting synth sounds from a guitar, but it's instead it's a fuzz for synth instruments (Duh! I should pay more attention). On the guitar this actually is a really nice warm overdrive, but not a lot of fuzz. Just beware that I didn't use the exact same pots as the schematic, but the results should be about the same.

    1. Cool. I wondered how it would sound on guitar. Thanks for the build report.

  3. Hello Effects Layouts, thanks for your great work!

Could you be interested in the Benjolin/Benjola by Rob Hordijk? It would be great to have a layout for that one!

  10. So I built this, and I can verify it. I think a lot of people aren't quite getting it because the Underside (reversed) part of the layout isn't actually reversed - it's just the component side with the components removed. It sounds pretty unpleasant though, and I can't tell what VRA is doing at all. VRB is a volume control of sorts, but the fuzz is layered at full blast over top of that. It's a really weird effect...
