Oz Compressor

Here's an interesting LM386-based compressor designed by Brett Robinson (DIYSB member Toney). I found the schematic for this while searching for something else. Apparently there are various incarnations (and names too) of this circuit, but this seems to be the most popular version. Should fit easily in a 1590A, though, I'm not sure about board-mounting the pots. You might have to get creative there...

  1. I'm having a little trouble with this one. It "works," but it's practically an overdrive, even with a Tele, if that makes any sense at all. All of my soldering is clean. Any suggestions?

    1. I really shouldn't even say overdrive. It's just fuzzy and kind of pulses if you let a chord ring long enough.

    2. Double check your voltages. Here's the original thread on DIYSB for this circuit.

And another trouble shooting thread as well.

    1. Not 100% sure off the top of my head, but check the thread on DIYSB linked above.

  4. Use 2N7000 istead of BS170, 1N5819 istead of 1N4148, use 2,2uF instead of 4,7uF, and replace 1K resistor with 10K trimpot; my prototype work very very good, but I have an idea that make it work better: put emitter follower transistor, actually act as BUFFER before this layout.
Clean - Compress - Smooth -bright tone.

    Thanks for this layout, mate!
