Zvex Wooly Mammoth

The Zvex Wooly Mammoth is a Fuzz Face derivative designed for bass, but sounds awesome on guitar as well. For this one I've laid it out for on board pots oriented like the originals. On the PCB I added an LED and LED resistor for on/off indication. As with my layout for the Fuzz Factory, this layout is designed for the pots to be mounted on the component side of the board.

    2. i printed a circuit board for this... all components were tested.. and then when i finished.. no sound is produced by this effect... feeling so frustrated... i built the layout from tagboardeffects.blogspot.com

i removed all the components and then put it to the new board... layout from tagboard is working.. i slightly compared the 2 layouts and found out that some of the components here are not connected...
this needs to be thoroughly checked...

    3. Sorry you're having problems with this. It has been thoroughly checked both to the schematic and Mark's layout and it checks out. Check your etch and make sure there aren't any shorts. Since you've already de-populated the board, this may be a moot point, but did you make sure the polarized components (100µ caps, polarity protection diode) were oriented correctly? Did you have the transistors oriented correctly?

What components are you referring to that you claim aren't connected?I've overlaid the component layout and the transfer images and nothing is disconnected...

  2. Hi, i just finish this layout and works pretty good, i hope than can you see this picture: https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t35.0-12/11242170_796086197148072_818780367_o.jpg?oh=e5e116247a28109af147e7adf2104e30&oe=55561355&__gda__=1431706184_f5504761d147e91b752aad6b7d625daf

  3. it works, but mine do not sound like what it should, "pinch" pot not really doing anything, and the overall sound is missing tones of high end

    1. Sounds like it could be unbiased. What transistors did you use?

    2. it was exactly that! :] i used 2n3904 for both, and some cheap ebay ones too.
tried quite a few, i think they are too strong, eventually replaced Q2 with mpsa13 and it made the effect nice!! very nice fuzzy sound lots of high end ! BUT its not quite there yet, the "pinch" pot is doing some nice job but as i compare it to youtube reviews it's not exactly like the others, and the pots response feels unnatural, but it dose sound a little more "gatey" wen i turn the guitar volume down a bit

    3. also i measured the pot, and it was more 450k then 500k (also eday pots) found one that was 470k mad the effect much better

    4. I got a batch of 2N3904s off eBay and they're all around 350 hfe. I think the Mammoth works better with lower gain 3904s, so see how 2N2222s work if you have any on hand.

  4. Hi,
It's my lovely fuzz, Works ok. But in my opinion the pot. "wool" must be conversley.

  5. I found. Pin 2 of pot "wool" must be connect to ground "-", not to cap 100 uF

  8. Just to clarify: the shafts of the pots are pointing toward the viewer in your layout, correct? Like, the shaft would be where there text is?

  9. The shafts are point away from the viewer. The pots would be mounted like this:

    Hope that helps!

  11. Hello, great job. In this case Wool pot increase distortion counterclockwise, this is a difference between the other design for right angle pots. thank you anyway, your site is the best. I will buy you some transistors soon. Thanks buddy

  13. Hei, about pot A2k on wool, its hard to find on here, so it possible if i change that pot with A10k + resistor 100ohm? Maybe the value around 2.5k. Or, If you've recommended resistor value for that, let me know. Thanks
