Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone! Last fuzz of 2019. Here's an interesting fuzz circuit from Way Huge based on the Tone Bender Mk. III. It uses PNP silicon transistors, but is a negative ground effect. Schematic available here.
This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.
What is cool to use MJ210 there??
ReplyDeleteThe MJE210 is a pretty low gain transistor. The max hfe is 180 according to the datasheet. So any PNP with low hfe should be fine, just mind the pinout. Might be fun to throw a germanium there.

ReplyDeletehey again, i used a BD176 as the substitute of MJE210 because it has the same pinout and max hfe values are pretty close. i adjusted the fuzz pot with a 10k and it worked pretty well. also it's much more easier to find BD176 around. it's a little bit more gated than i thought. it would be cooler with an additional jfet buffer to the input. call this verified.

ReplyDeleteThe best sounding fuzz I ever heard so far. I used soviet germanium transistors as Q3:

ГТ308В hfe=64: bad, for some reason there is a kind of feedback noise with this one
Tested with GT403, since the original transistor is not available, tested many germanium transistors, this one will do best, a lot depends on hfe, at some values at maximum settings there is a squeak.
