This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.
You guys super pestered me to do this one, so here it is. Now get off my back! 😄 Layout turned out fairly big, but not overly so. It should fit nicely in a 1590BB.
This week I'm doing this pedal with a layout made by myself (quite worse, I recognize; no onboard soldered pots, vertical resistors and a few jumpers), that fits in a 125b. I hope end it tomorrow.
Hi Jan! Can you send me pls a sound demo of this pedal? email: andirko.csabi_@hotmail.com Are you built your pedal according to the picture? Thanks for the answers.
Hi there. Just finished my build and I can verify that as well. Just a noob question though: I'm experiencing a lack of pick attack whilst cranking the gain up. Is that a normal behaviour of the circuit or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Hi!!! Thank you for this contribution, today I finished it and it sounds brutal !!!! I tried it with a Blackstar fly3, and I don't find much difference between the blue and red channels, it's like they sound the same, but the amplifier may not help much, even so it sounds brutal !!!! Thank you very much and greetings from Argentina !!!
Ive built two of these great distortion but i end up setting the high all the back to 9oclock pos and the bass full. If i were to mod this which caps would i change just to add more low end. Any help would be appreciated
Try lowering the 82k resistor attached to the bass knob (lower left of PCB). I tried 33k and got better bass response, but the pedal kinda sounds like it's cutting out while soloing (even with the original 82k though, just not as bad).
Anyone else have this kinda farting out a bit on higher notes? Scoping the output looks like the dc bias point shifts a fair bit, hard to say. Mine also squeals a bit if I crank the volume, but I don't have it boxed yet so that could help. Also lacking in bass as Michael said above.
I haven't built the G3 but I currently have the G4 on the breadboard to play around with. I observed that with the bass turned up, high notes have a tendency to overload the output stage: the final op-amp with the 470k/10k resistors setting the gain. Reducing the 470k to say, 220k seems to help with this problem, but it will affect the overall output level.
As far as lack of gain is concerned, I also find the same to be the case with the G4 layout, although I am using it with a strat plus. Maybe all the demos on YT are done with high-output pickups!
Hi, first of all thanks for all the contributions on this blog. I have built this pedal twice and in both cases the same thing happened. It sounds (very good) for a few seconds and then it only makes some noise and at other times nothing. I have respected all the measurements of the components. What could it be?.
could you fix it I am building the g4 but I have horrible noises, squeals and the LEDs blink. g3 and g4 are almost identical. That's why I'm asking you.
well, after several unsuccessful attempts, I managed to fix these small bugs. sometimes it was my board badly finished by acid or cut tracks, the last 3 attempts I always made from scratch, and 2 of these 3 have come out identical and functional. Considering it's my first time doing that.
In the layout of the revv g3 and g4 pedal to the solar on the guitar the sound was cut and failing, I removed the two leds and solved all the problems that I had of whistling and sound failure
The negative/cathode side of the LED is marked by a flat spot. Kinda hard to tell here, but the cathode of D1 faces toward D2, and the cathode of D2 faces D1. Hope that helps
I have a problem and the two 074s work fine, but it doesn't sound, I remove the 074 on the left side of the diagram and it sounds but at a very low volume, and the mids don't work !! what will be the problem? help !!!
Finally! After many months frustrated with the "whistle" generated when the pedal is off, I decided to resume the project. I used an A2k potentiometer for volume and changed the 470k resistor, located on the board between the right TL074 and the 100pF capacitor, to a 47k and, VOILÀ! Now it works perfectly! I will also try on the G4.
I works but sound is too muddy. All the pots work. But eventhough the treble pot is set up max and others at minimum, it sounds muddy, lack of high mids. Did anyone experience that?
I have a 'whistling sound' when the agressor switch turn to Red or Blue channel.. In the middle position (center), no whistling at all.. Is there somethings wrong?
mine's not working i assumed i have no missed component or solder ball on pcb when pedal engaged the D2 led clipping is on and dimmed light also it sounds scratchy, idk if it self osciliation or else?? is there any solution?
Finally! Just about time. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnyone pls verify this.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way that this fits a 1590b right?
ReplyDeleteIf you use a low profile footswitch and jacks, and wire the pots off-board, maybe.
Delete@Lucas1448
DeleteI did 1590B layout for REVV G3. Onboard pots. But, you need micro dpdt and lumberg jack. Look ugly with lots of jumper too.

could it fit in a 125b?
ReplyDeleteIf you wire the pots all off-board, probably.

ReplyDeleteCare to share your 125b layout?
DeleteThere goes my hero
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! I was one of those who requested it! These days I will!
ReplyDeleteI also requested this pedal! Buying parts and building it soon!
DeleteDid you use the schematic that is in pedalpcb.com?
ReplyDeleteVerified! Amazing sound came out. Best distortion ever. Thank you really so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreeting from Japan
Can you send sound demo? arlovaldez@gmail.com
DeleteThanks for verifying!

Deletehow to install a DPDT switch?
Deletehow's the dpdt pin out?? 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 1,3,5,2,4,6??
DeleteHi there. Just finished my build and I can verify that as well. Just a noob question though: I'm experiencing a lack of pick attack whilst cranking the gain up. Is that a normal behaviour of the circuit or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'd watch some demos and compare. I don't have any experience with this pedal other than laying it out.

ReplyDeletePd: next week I try to do the revv g4 !!!
i used instead second 2n2(to the left from diod)= 10n, & i got difference between red & blue
DeleteGreat!! Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try it!
DeleteJust a small mistake in the layout that affects both G3 and G4. Diode marked as '5517' in fact is refers to '5817'or '1N5817' that is to say. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat! And 1N40** can be used as well.
DeleteAnyone manage to fit this inside 125b?
ReplyDeleteGreat Dist! Thank you, David! Made it!

ReplyDeleteLed 3mm or 5mm?
ReplyDeleteit is the same
DeleteHow to wiring the switch?
ReplyDeleteout of my 2 3mm LED , only one lights on. is it normal? and my output is kind of grounded
ReplyDeletesame problem
DeleteI'm also experiencing the same thing, can anyone help?
Deletesame problem, i have no sound output
Deleteanyone solved?

DeleteAlternatively, if you have the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator, the EQ is a "James" eq (Baxandall). Play around with values in there.
Deletethanks will try that. lately ive found that on guitars with high output pickups it tends to squel. have you ever had this problem?
DeleteI changed it to 33k and the lows improved, but they appear abruptly only with the potentiometer at maximum. Sorry for my English.

I was specting more gain, does anyone feels the same or i made a mistake with mine?

DeleteThe G2 and G4 schematic are almost identical, with a few components with differente values.
Deletewell, after several unsuccessful attempts, I managed to fix these small bugs. sometimes it was my board badly finished by acid or cut tracks, the last 3 attempts I always made from scratch, and 2 of these 3 have come out identical and functional. Considering it's my first time doing that.
DeleteAre D1 and D2 LEDs for or clipping or glowing?
ReplyDeleteClipping
DeleteCan anyone confirm if this and the G4 layouts are 100% the same as what's in the official pedals made by Revv?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Should resistors be metal film? Or can i use standart resistors for it?
ReplyDeleteIt's up to you

and also here you can see 3 electrolytic caps: https://pedalauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_0967.jpg
mod for more gain?

ReplyDeleteMade it.But when I turn up treble pot it starts to make a really sharp noise. Any ideas?
ReplyDeletesolved that problem by grounding every pot. probably it was just a ham.
DeleteI did not connect terminals 4 and 6 of the dpdt switch and it worked perfectly. Before that, the sound of position 3 sounded like a fart.

ReplyDeleteDo you have the schem? Please
ReplyDeletepardon for the noob'esque question, but what orientation (polarity) shall D1 and D2 (red led's) be?
ReplyDeleteThe negative/cathode side of the LED is marked by a flat spot. Kinda hard to tell here, but the cathode of D1 faces toward D2, and the cathode of D2 faces D1. Hope that helps
DeleteAda yg bisa membantu saya? G4 saya bekerja namun sustainnya sangat pendek...
ReplyDeleteverificado, suena muy bien...muchas gracias.
ReplyDeleteHi. I set up the project, but with the switch in the red position it makes noise even without the guitar input signal. What can it be?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI have the same problem.
DeletePor experiencia, puede que algún potenciometro este en mal estado o con algún error!
DeleteSee my comment from January 7th. I solved the problem.
DeleteDon't use 4 and 6.

ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan Brose! It worked here with 47K resistor. And pot A50K.
DeleteDid ir work no the g4?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI think it doesn't matter Pot 50 or 2k. Actually, I did it with a 2k and I was too lazy to change hehehe
DeleteI haven't tried it on the G4 yet.
DeleteDPDT Switch pin number worked with: http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/Toggle-switch-wiring.php
ReplyDeleteWORKING, IF THE 10K RESISTOR THAT IS IN IC TL074 NEAR MY VOLUME POT is dislodged, WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
ReplyDeleteI works but sound is too muddy. All the pots work. But eventhough the treble pot is set up max and others at minimum, it sounds muddy, lack of high mids. Did anyone experience that?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone help me?
ReplyDeletemine doesn't make a sound at all
voltage measurement on the tl074 ic on the left (I use 6v in the circuit)
pin 1 = 1v pin 8 = 4v
pin 2 = 1v pin 9 = 0v
pin 3 = 1v pin 10 = 1v
pin 4 = 4v pin 11 = -4v
pin 5 = 1v pin 12 = 1v
pin 6 = 1v pin 13 = 1v
pin 7 = 1v pin 14 = 1v
is there something wrong with this voltage?
I have a 'whistling sound' when the agressor switch turn to Red or Blue channel.. In the middle position (center), no whistling at all.. Is there somethings wrong?
ReplyDeleteSame problem here, hope someone knows how to fix that problem,
DeleteAnyone fixed this problem??

when pedal engaged the D2 led clipping is on and dimmed light also it sounds scratchy, idk if it self osciliation or else??
is there any solution?
It work perfectly for me. I have remade the pcb to fit in a 1590b
ReplyDeleteCan I replace 2.2nF with another cap? Like idk, 4.7nF? I can't find 2.2nF locally.
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteHi Jonathan Bröse, can you please log the changes you made to make it quieter? Thanks very much.
