Skreddy Fuzz Driver

Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone. Here's a modded Fuzz Face from Skreddy Pedals. Early versions are all germanium and later versions are a hybrid germanium/silicon setup. Since it's so similar to a Fuzz Face, there's a lot of room for experimentation. Here's the schematic for reference.

  1. Hey:)
To make it a hybrid would it be as easy as sticking an si transistor in q1? Would there be any mod you would suggest?
    Thnx,

    1. Yeah, I'd start with a low-medium hFE silicon transistor in Q1. You may need to adjust the 56k resistor from 9v to the collector, but I'd start with just replacing Q1 and go from there.

    2. There's plenty of good discussion on diystompboxes.com on the topic... some simple and some with great detail:

  2. Verified! Used silicon both, bc 549, 2n 5088, tried Ge q1 MP 38a, Q2 - mpsa 14,18, bc 549, 2n 5088. My verdict: Q1 Ge mp38a hfe 60-85(tried a lot of), Q2 si - 2n5088 hfe=430 or kt 3102 e hfe=500-700, all good working! 56 kom should trim individual & very exactly, no more,no less.& yet, i changed drive 5k to 20 kom.

  3. if you will use Q2 with low hfe, you will get low gain.

  4. Boa tarde. Quais TRANSISTORES tem um maior rendimento? E para D1?
    Grato.

  5. The Hybrid Fuzz Driver insides that I've seen had three transistors: 2 Si and 1 Ge. Do you have a schematic for that one?

  6. Is it different from this?

  7. Good afternoon, please tell me what kind of yellow capacitor 10mKF is on the third leg of the volume, ordinary ceramic, not polar? Thanks.

    1. That's a 10uF tantalum, which is polarized. An electrolytic would also work there.
