This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Menatone Ms. Foxy Brown

Another Marshall-in-a-box, the Ms. Foxy Brown uses 3 J201s and feels a lot like an older Run Off Groove design (though it's not). As per usual, you'll need to bias the J201s to about 4.5v and then fine tune as needed. Should fit easily in a 1590B. Schematic for reference.

  1. In the demo video.... anyone else here the high pitched whine from the pedal? {may be older but my ears are very young}

  2. Thanks for the verification, Peter. Speedy, as usual!

    How would you personally rate this Marshall-in-a-box to any others that you've built?

    1. It may just be my ears, but I thought this sounded pretty thin.

    2. Thanks for the input.

      Menatone seems to have a pretty vocal following out there and I've wanted to try out one of the circuits. I just don't think I need another Marshall-type box right now.

      Maybe when I'm done with the pile of boards I have here now...

    3. Where are you guys getting "Marshall" from? The website says it's based on the American Volume/Tone amps with brown tolex.

  5. Heres an interesting Brian May in a Box that I think would be a good addition to your library.

    Its a NPN Rangemaster going into a Vox AC30 sim (I think - definitely the RangeBlaster available somewhere online). I've made it and its nice sounding. I also made another but with a Cornish TB-83. Oh - also I took a real Cornish TB-83 apart and took all the epoxy off so I have a schematic for that too if you are interested.

  6. Peter Jung I built a Menatone KOTB pedal from one of the DIY vendors and it was not plexi like,as one reviewer on Youtube said it can be harsh!! the highs were brutal,J201 pedals can be hard to get sounding right,

  7. This is actually a Fender Brownface era "amp-in-a-box" pedal, not a Marshall-based one.

    1. Aha... thanks for the comment, Iago. I had assumed it was a "brown sound" kind of thing and had not looked up any details. The small notes given at the beginning of the video made it look like it was all Marshall oriented.
