This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Maxon CP101 Compressor
Stumbled across the schematic for this compressor and couldn't find a layout for it. So I drew it up. This follows the original red box version, not the black box reissue. It's an optical compressor and apparently fairly subtle. I couldn't find any info on the vactrol used in the original–sockets are your friend. Should be an easy fit in a 1590B.

DeleteIs this verified yet ?
ReplyDeleteIs that 500 ohm trim to regulate voltage?
ReplyDeleteNo, it allows you to adjust the high pass filter I think.
Deleteverified.. π
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteDoes anyone used germanium transistors ? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHow should the photoresistor resistance be ?
ReplyDeletewhat is LDR and what is the value ??
ReplyDeleteA LDR is a "Light Dependent Resistor", there is not a specific value, you can use the GL5528 LDR
DeleteHow to reduce sound hiss?
ReplyDeletePlease reply?
DON'T use a 741! They hiss really badly

ReplyDeleteBut, I want to know that 500ohm trim pot..., what is that for? Is it a attack/release knob?
Im not a compressor fan,but i made this for a friend, you can verify this,it works, with some tiny noise but bearable,and..i still dont know what a compressor really do π π π
ReplyDeleteIs it normal to have a little bit of clipping in this pedal? I tried replacing the LDR with various resistors and found that, the higher the resistor, the more clipping I got. Maybe I need a brighter LED, or a different LDR?
ReplyDeleteTry green led
