This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Parasit Studio 8-Bitar

For Fuzz Friday, here's a really cool design from Parasit Studio:

The 8-Bitar is a minimalistic octave down pedal with a 8-bit sound (glitchy and gated square wave fuzz). It's small enough to fit inside a 1590A without any special parts.

The design goal with this pedal was to achieve the core octave tone from the Arcadiator, but with as few components as possible. I'm happy with the result since it only uses one chip (a CD4069).

Usual caveats apply for getting the best tracking - humbuckers, neck pickup and tone rolled off.

    PS: is there another IC i can use as a replacement? TI tend to be a little bit harder to find here in Mexico

  15. Just made this one, for some reason it is pretty glitchy, no sustain, is it supposed to be like that? It kinda sounds like sag almost, my battery may not have enough juice to power it! I will try a power supply tomorrow, any thoughts?

  16. Made one to spec, but i'm getting a weird clicking sound taking over the effect, can't find any solder bridges, i know its not a large or complicated pedal, but what causes the clicking sound so i can zero in on the problem?

I do feel rather retarded, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me for some odd fkn reason :-D Have made several way more complicated builds so it's weird and kind of a bummer for this to not be working. The output is very low and kind of distorted (only audible when hitting the strings harder pretty much). I am able to probe the audio signal on the left side of the ic, but nothing on the right side pins-output etc.
    Has anyone had a similar issue?

    1. I just built this and also had low output except for a fraction of a second when hitting the strings hard, like a really heavy gate effect. I initially used a cd4069 from Tayda. Once I swapped the chip out for one I ordered from Small Bear, the circuit worked fine.

    3. Both were "ube". I just tried two other of the cd4069ube's from Tayda and both had the gating effect, though not as bad.
