This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Devi Ever Ruiner
Another brutal fuzz machine from Devi, and sounds great on bass and guitar. Pretty straight forward design–two cascaded transistor amplifier stages with a pre-gain control (intensity) and standard volume control. Pots are board mounted and it shouldn't take all that long to throw together.

It works! LOTS of (too much) boost and with the drive past one or two, its more of a noisemaker. Dunno, maybe I'll try a pair of transistors with less juice.

DeleteI have to agree. Tried it now with 2N3904's and its a lot more manageable. Also seems a lot closer to the demo vids. Loaded with the MPSA18's it seems like there is little gain range. I also upped the intensity pot to 500KB. More range in general.

DeleteAny link to a schematic you worked from? I know its a pretty simple circuit. Just have some conflicting capacitor values with the only schemo I can find of this one. The only difference in values is input and output capacitors are 1uF instead of 100nF. Did you modify the values? I understand why you would, would just like to know if 100nF's are found in the original version?

Mine is behaving a little bit odd. It is quieter when the effect is engaged and the only thing I get is some farty sounds when I strum hard. Would that be misbiased transistors possibly?
ReplyDeleteYeah, probably biasing. Try adjusting the value of the 10k to the right of Q1 and the 10k to the right of Q2.
