I've had a couple requests for a 1590A friendly Tube Screamer, and lately I've really been enjoying laying out 1590A boards, so here it is. Since there's 3 potentiometers, you'll need to use 9mm pots, and the 3PDT footswitch is board mounted. I would suggest using small profile jacks for this like these, or just measure really carefully when drilling the enclosure. Note that the 100uF power filter capacitor is folded on it's side for space purposes.
This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.
You're a HERO!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the board-mounted footswitch idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is verified \m/
ReplyDeleteHoly crap that was fast! Got any pics?
DeleteI put a pic on the facebook page
DeleteNot a fan of the TS but woah what a cool compact layout!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Thank you
ReplyDeleteAnother great layout
Thank you

ReplyDeleteHow are you mounting the 3PDT? Because it would be hard to solder it on the under side of the board. Are you reverse mounting the PCB like in Boss pedals? Cool layout either way :)))
ReplyDeleteEverything gets mounted on the top side of the board.
DeleteRad. I thought so. Sorry I was just gettin' my head around it.
DeleteMad Professor Royal Blue overdrive pls...!
ReplyDeletesorry...
Please Himmelstrutz fetto in a 1590A if possible. It would be great!!!

Why capacitor 100uf square and has no holes on the board?
ReplyDeletethe cap is folded to fit this into the enclosure
Deletethe holes are: + pole at the red track, - pole at the end of the green one, all of em above the 1n2001 diode
But I can make holes in the board and bend the leg at a right angle. Yes?
Deleteyes, you are actually HAVE TO make holes to solder the cap to the board; and yes, you can bend it to any direction you like, as long as you connect the pin in the correct position.
DeleteHey, this is my first build and i have a question. Is the 100 uf capacitor or special capacitor? Or is it a normal electrolytic capacitor. Im a bit confused of " power filter capacitor"
DeleteIt's a normal polarized electrolytic cap. It's function is to filter the power, but any 100uF electrolytic will work there as long as its voltage rating is high enough. (I generally go with 35v)
DeleteThx man!!!
DeleteIf you short the 47 nf cap, you can get a fat bass distortion and try LEDs for softer clipping. I use it this way with harmonica.
ReplyDeleteIs the resistor 1/8 or 1/4? Thanks
ReplyDelete1/4
DeleteOkay...BTW is there any list of these components?
ReplyDeleteThanks again and mabuhay from Philippines...
Is the gain pot being used with only two terminals? Do I just cut off either the 2nd or the 3rd one?
ReplyDeleteJumper them together.
Deletei etched the big muff nad tube screamer but botched driling and mounting 3pdts...is there a way to cut off board mounted 3pdt section and wire directly to board....i see how for everything but lugs 3, 6 and 9
ReplyDeleteI guess you could just cut of the part of the board with the footswitch. Lugs 3 and 6 jumper together, and lug 9 you can either connect to lug 4 (this grounds the effect when it's bypassed) or just leave it unconnected.
Deletei mean wire as in use wires, im gonna order some 3pdts with pins on next order then there wont be an issuse
ReplyDeleteis the 1uf cap`s tantal? can you show the polarity?
ReplyDeleteIt's not a tant. Use a non-polarized ceramic or film cap
Deletethx
DeletePotensio B for Linear or Logaritmis? Cause different for some region. And for the input use the mono jack or stereo? Thanks before ^_^
ReplyDeleteB = linear. If you're putting this in a 1590A, you'll probably not be using a battery, so no need for a stereo input jack.
DeleteJust finished mine. A few words of advice to others:
ReplyDeleteIn at least the smallbear 1590a enclosure, you are going to need to mount those skinny jacks as close to the top of the enclosure as you can, else it won't fit. Closer than the drilling template suggests. By 5-6mm.
Don't install the electrolytic caps until you verify fitment in the enclosure. You might need to leave the leads long so you can lay it over a few mm further away than the layout suggests. Or order some super-compact caps -- they exist.
Remember to buy a PC mount stomp switch if you are using the pads for the switch.
led color?
ReplyDeleteWhatever you want

ReplyDeleteI have a question about the 51pf ceramic capacitor. I cant find one with this value in our local shops or in our online shops. Can i replace it with 47 pf or 56 pf? Or is it problematic?
ReplyDeleteEither of those are fine.
DeleteVerified. Fantastic sound!
ReplyDeleteSounds good, thanks
ReplyDeleteDude, thank you so much. It was jolly good fun to etch and to populate. Sounds brilliant too. I stock with the 20K tone pot, I have 25K pots at hand, but they are large. I thank you again, you're truly a legend.
ReplyDeleteKalau switchnya pakai DPDT kaki 6 pengaruh suaranya nggak
ReplyDeleteBisa tapi papan di modif dpdt
DeleteI know im stretching a bit here, but by any chance does anyone has this in cad or gerber?
ReplyDeleteHello, where can I find the diagram?
ReplyDeleteHi it's possible to replace the 51pf capacitor with a 56pf?
ReplyDeleteThank's
Yeah that's fine. Also a 47p will work as well.
Deletethank you!
