This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

4ms Fuzz Jade
Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone. Today's layout is a cool variation of the Fuzz Face circuit, but with the addition of a Big Muff tone stack and a gain recovery stage. There's also a Mud pot that starves Q3 for extra tweaking. Board mounted pots and 1590B friendly. Here's the schematic for reference.

Sounds cool! Think this may be my next build when I'm done with whats on my table now.
ReplyDeleteAny way you could work up the Mad Professor #1 pedal? I would love to have a crack at that one!

ReplyDeleteThe effect sounds more like a Fuzz Face than a Big Muff, but much more buzzy and gated.
The Tone control loses a lot of volume in the middle position, so it may be worth trying other Big Muff tone stack values.
Q3 gates and distorts rather than just compensating for the lossy tone stack.
The Mud pot is too big. 5k pot will already starve Q3 enough that the effect volume will be below unity with the Gain and Volume controls maxed.
