Revv G3

You guys super pestered me to do this one, so here it is. Now get off my back! 😄 Layout turned out fairly big, but not overly so. It should fit nicely in a 1590BB.

  1. Finally! Just about time. Thank you!

  2. There is no way that this fits a 1590b right?

    1. If you use a low profile footswitch and jacks, and wire the pots off-board, maybe.

    2. @Lucas1448

I did 1590B layout for REVV G3. Onboard pots. But, you need micro dpdt and lumberg jack. Look ugly with lots of jumper too.

  3. This week I'm doing this pedal with a layout made by myself (quite worse, I recognize; no onboard soldered pots, vertical resistors and a few jumpers), that fits in a 125b. I hope end it tomorrow.

  7. Hi there. Just finished my build and I can verify that as well. Just a noob question though: I'm experiencing a lack of pick attack whilst cranking the gain up. Is that a normal behaviour of the circuit or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

    1. I'd watch some demos and compare. I don't have any experience with this pedal other than laying it out.

  8. Hi!!! Thank you for this contribution, today I finished it and it sounds brutal !!!! I tried it with a Blackstar fly3, and I don't find much difference between the blue and red channels, it's like they sound the same, but the amplifier may not help much, even so it sounds brutal !!!! Thank you very much and greetings from Argentina !!!

Pd: next week I try to do the revv g4 !!!

  9. Just a small mistake in the layout that affects both G3 and G4. Diode marked as '5517' in fact is refers to '5817'or '1N5817' that is to say. Thanks!

  14. Ive built two of these great distortion but i end up setting the high all the back to 9oclock pos and the bass full. If i were to mod this which caps would i change just to add more low end. Any help would be appreciated

    1. Try lowering the 82k resistor attached to the bass knob (lower left of PCB). I tried 33k and got better bass response, but the pedal kinda sounds like it's cutting out while soloing (even with the original 82k though, just not as bad).

    2. Alternatively, if you have the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator, the EQ is a "James" eq (Baxandall). Play around with values in there.

    3. thanks will try that. lately ive found that on guitars with high output pickups it tends to squel. have you ever had this problem?

      Delete
  15. Anyone else have this kinda farting out a bit on higher notes? Scoping the output looks like the dc bias point shifts a fair bit, hard to say. Mine also squeals a bit if I crank the volume, but I don't have it boxed yet so that could help. Also lacking in bass as Michael said above.

    1. I haven't built the G3 but I currently have the G4 on the breadboard to play around with. I observed that with the bass turned up, high notes have a tendency to overload the output stage: the final op-amp with the 470k/10k resistors setting the gain.
Reducing the 470k to say, 220k seems to help with this problem, but it will affect the overall output level.

As far as lack of gain is concerned, I also find the same to be the case with the G4 layout, although I am using it with a strat plus. Maybe all the demos on YT are done with high-output pickups!

  16. I was specting more gain, does anyone feels the same or i made a mistake with mine?

  17. Hi, first of all thanks for all the contributions on this blog. I have built this pedal twice and in both cases the same thing happened. It sounds (very good) for a few seconds and then it only makes some noise and at other times nothing. I have respected all the measurements of the components. What could it be?.

    ReplyDelete

    1. could you fix it I am building the g4 but I have horrible noises, squeals and the LEDs blink. g3 and g4 are almost identical. That's why I'm asking you.

      Delete
    2. The G2 and G4 schematic are almost identical, with a few components with differente values.

      Delete
    3. well, after several unsuccessful attempts, I managed to fix these small bugs. sometimes it was my board badly finished by acid or cut tracks, the last 3 attempts I always made from scratch, and 2 of these 3 have come out identical and functional. Considering it's my first time doing that.

  18. Are D1 and D2 LEDs for or clipping or glowing?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can anyone confirm if this and the G4 layouts are 100% the same as what's in the official pedals made by Revv?

    Thanks

  20. Should resistors be metal film? Or can i use standart resistors for it?

  21. In the layout of the revv g3 and g4 pedal to the solar on the guitar the sound was cut and failing, I removed the two leds and solved all the problems that I had of whistling and sound failure

    1. The negative/cathode side of the LED is marked by a flat spot. Kinda hard to tell here, but the cathode of D1 faces toward D2, and the cathode of D2 faces D1. Hope that helps

  35. Finally! After many months frustrated with the "whistle" generated when the pedal is off, I decided to resume the project. I used an A2k potentiometer for volume and changed the 470k resistor, located on the board between the right TL074 and the 100pF capacitor, to a 47k and, VOILÀ! Now it works perfectly! I will also try on the G4.

  38. I works but sound is too muddy. All the pots work. But eventhough the treble pot is set up max and others at minimum, it sounds muddy, lack of high mids. Did anyone experience that?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can anyone help me?
mine doesn't make a sound at all

voltage measurement on the tl074 ic on the left (I use 6v in the circuit)

    pin 1 = 1v pin 8 = 4v
    pin 2 = 1v pin 9 = 0v
    pin 3 = 1v pin 10 = 1v
    pin 4 = 4v pin 11 = -4v
    pin 5 = 1v pin 12 = 1v
    pin 6 = 1v pin 13 = 1v
    pin 7 = 1v pin 14 = 1v

is there something wrong with this voltage?
