Spaceman Titan II

Happy Fuzz Friday! Here's the Spaceman Effects Titan II fuzz, traced by Dino (Digi2T). I simplified the polarity protection, removing the BS250 in place of a simpler 1N5817 diode. Transistors need to be pretty low gain—under 200 hFE. Should be an easy fit for a 1590B.

  1. Spaceman is kinda obsessed with ferrite beads, puts them everywhere, even where they are not needed.

  2. What is a ferrite bead and whats it used for?

    1. Google tells me:
"Ferrite beads feature a hollow cylinder or a bead made of ferrite and are suitable for eliminating high-frequency EMI noise on any circuit design. They are widely used in commonly used electronic devices, including cell phones, computer and laptops, TV tuners, audio players, DVDs, and gaming systems, to keep the power lines noise free."

That's a pretty concise description, without getting too technical. I'm sure you've seen them on the ends of some computer cables.

Yeah... not as common inside of pedal builds.

  3. I see a lot of different ones but they all range in resistance. Which one is needed in this build?

    1. Regarding which part? RE: Ferrite beads you could literally just put a jumper in place, they likely don't do much most of the time.

    sounds great! Transistors i use: 2x of 2n2222 (hFe=180), 1x of 2n3904 (hFE=190)

  5. verified too, used Q1,q2 3904,Q3-2n2222(hfe 340), changed Q1 2n 2222 (hfe 320), good sound. did not use any ferrite beads.

  6. Do you guys get an oscillation at higher gain settings?

  7. I built it based on a layout from other forum . Sounds very good but gets an oscillation at the last 10-20% of the fuzz pot. I believe it must be an issue with the layout... small caps here and there did not help. So how its gonna be with this layout...any info would save me a lot of /de/soldering...
    thanks

  8. hi geeks,
would you explain the way this tone control with the 2 caps wokrs.... is it hi pass/low pass thing or just blending...
    thanks in advance!
