Rockett .45 Caliber

Here's the .45 Caliber overdrive from J. Rockett Audio Designs. It's essentially a simplified Timmy without the second opamp stage, and claims to emulate the sound and feel of a 1962 JTM 45. Easy fit in a 1590B with board mounted pots.

Edit: Schematic for reference

  2. Hi Folks!
    Greetings from Austria
Another Great layout!! I finished my Build Right now, and it Works like a Charme!
    Many thanks!
( i Took a 500 k lin pot for gain, because i had no 250k at home. But it Works Great!)
I think you can Mark this as " verified"
Thank you so much for your brillant work!

    1. I have a problem. When i use it by itself, or as the first pedal in the chain, it has a very low noise floor. When i use it with any other pedal in front of it that has a TBP, the noise is noticibly higher. It happens even when the other effects are off. If the pedals i put in front have buffered bypass, it do not happen, the problem is with TBP pedals. I have tried several pedals before it, all does the same. The noise is related to the gain, it increases as you turn up the gain, but i am so pissed becouse by itself the pedal is super quiet, even with gain at almost 80%.
I do not know what could be happening.

  7. I built this today and it worked first time... 4th one I've built from this site and they've all worked first time, so thank you very much for the layouts. I built this one to get a Hendrix style crunchy rhythm sound and it is certainly very good at that, it really puts me into a Band of Gypsys vibe, and my Roger Mayer fuzz stacks up very nicely with it. Does anybody know of any mods for it? (I'm a real tweeker!). Thanks again... Peace :)

  9. How to increase the gain? Change 47k resistor?

  10. Fired up first try, and sounds great. Thanks for all of the killer layouts!

  11. FInally I got it working, I needed to build two on perfboard. Yes, if you put B1M or 500k for you will get much more gain, for B1M you will get so much that you won't stand the hiss, forget that! I'll buy a proper potentiometer B250K and see, for the moment I can say it's not for me, the sound I didn't like.

  12. Does anyone know if this circuit is suitable for 18V as long as all the capacitors are properly rated? It looks like the 4558 should take it, but is there anything else I should be concerned about?

  13. I am building a pedal for this ckt with your 'Colt' PCB. The layout above shows LED+ connecting to a 4K7 resistor then to a 4001 diode. The Colt PCB show LED- connecting to a CLR resistor then to a (Schottky) 5817 diode. While the components might not be all that critical, It seems to me that the polarity of the LED connection should be positive. Can you confirm or comment?

    1. Yeah that pad should be labeled L+. And you can use either a 5817 or 4001 for polarity protection.

  14. Verified. Build it and sound very nice. Trying some opamp like NE5532, LM833 give any option sound character. Can i get more gain, how? Because I realy like it.
