Wampler Pinnacle

Got another cascaded JFET design, this time from Wampler. Great for getting those EVH Brown Sound tones. I've added 2 trimmers for the 2 non-cascaded JFET stages to make biasing at little easier (originals use 22k resistors). Should be an easy fit in a 125B with top mounted jacks, but should also work in a 1590B with top mounted jacks (though you have to be really precise drilling those).

  1. Verified! By the way, spot switch is"Bright" and equal to "Vintage/Modern", and dpdt switch is "boost".
Boxing with 125b so i can have boost using 3pdt foot switch.
    Sounds great! Thanks a lot.

  3. Good night, I would like to know how to put a DPDT foot switch, for the booster of this pedal, with a trigger LED? Tank you

    1. There's not a booster in this version of the Pinnacle (you're thinking of the Pinnacle II).

  4. But this SWA would not be the booster, of that version? I think it might be possible

    1. That's more of a tone switch. Modern doesn't mean louder necessarily. haha

  5. Yes, it's not for reinforcement booster, yes to replace the DTDP thank you

  8. Hi .. any ideas how to setup the trimpots ? I tried 4.5V on the D leg of the J201, but still very noise, probably is a combination of the both trimpots.. Is working fine all the controls and switchs, is just the noise when the guitar is not being played.

    1. Yeah, 4.5v is really just a starting point. When I bias JFETs like this, I get it close to 4.5v then just tweak the trimmers till things sound right. Also, have you boxed the board yet? If you haven't, some of the noise could be because it's not shielded.

  9. Is it on-on dpdt and spst switces or on-off-on?

    1. Hello Gino, I´m from Brazil and I´ve build this today (december 27,2020) and works using the PCB picture on the main page. Maybe you have counterfeit J201. Use a test probe and check if there is audio after each component going from input to output.

  15. I've built several of these using authentic J201's and it sounds fantastic. Since J201's have dried up, I've tried building with the mmbfj201 from Mouser (using an adaptor board) and it sounds horrible. I've built a test one using sockets to test the jfets and all of the smd's are just unusable. The through hole J201's that I still have sound fantastic. Any idea why the smd's just sound bad in this circuit?
