This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Perf Board Tutorial

I thought a tutorial on how to build on perfboard would be a good addition to the blog. There are lots of ways to do it, but this video shows how I do perf builds and how the perf layouts are designed to be built. I filmed this ages ago with great intentions, but it took me a year to get it fully edited (video editing is actually my day job and I'd rather build pedals or play with my kids when I get home instead of doing more editing lol). But better late than never! Enjoy.

  1. As a graphic artist, I know exactly what you mean! I have all sorts of good guitar projects that I want to design and work on, but it's hard after a long day on the job.

Thanks for all of the great information on the site!

  4. What program do you use to draw the circuit?

  7. So u use 26 gauge solid core, where do u get it from? I've gotten to where I can do the board just fine but the pots give me he'll! Seems everyone likes solder lug and 24 awg stranded. Just finished up a 100' spool so I'd like to give solid core a shot. Awesome site, your very talented guy!

    1. I got the 26 gauge stuff of Amazon. I actually prefer a heavier gauge as it's less likely to break (if you end up moving/bending the wires around a bunch when you start boxing things wires will sometimes break at the board if you're not careful). This stuff has worked out pretty well though. It's just a little more dainty than I like. haha

  10. Another way to do it, which might help with more complex circuits, is to make all the traces with tinned copper craft wire before mounting any of the components. Although it does get fairly tedious (a fairly packed 16x25 board took me ~3-4 hours to trace out using this method).
