BearFoot FX Candy Apple Fuzz

For Fuzz Friday, here's the BearFoot FX Candy Apple Fuzz. It's a unique silicon/germanium hybrid designed by Bjorn and it rips. Originals use 2N1308 NPN germanium transistors, but others can be used. Pots are all board mounted and it will fit nicely in a 1590B. Here's the schematic for reference.

  1. Awesome! Thanks!
Btw, you can replace 2n5952 with j201, it will alter the tone a little bit, but not too much.

  2. i built it and it sounds great so you can verify it.

  3. Yay! Gutshot: https://vk.cc/5VYz57
I've tried it with 1n1308 and MP35. MP35 sound more pleasant to my ear.

    TY again!

  5. Hi, I've noticed that in this schematic (http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.md/search?q=candy+apple) there's also a 1k resistor that goes from 22uf to Q4, like the one that goes from another 22uf to Q3. I's not a huge difference, but I like it more with that 1k resistor, it brighten up the sound a little bit and make it a bit more precise.

  6. Hi!

Ive built the CAF on this pcb but I can't get the octave thing to work. I couldn't find the 2n3108's so I tried with a pair of 2n3904 and I have also tested with BC109/8. I have sound at the output but when I turn the nature knob to one side the sound disapear. I suspect there is something wrong with the Q4. When I measure the voltages i get these values.
    No sound, nature at endpoint
    Q3 C – 9,4v, B – 0,3v, E – 0,1v
    Q4 C – 9,4v, B – 0,2v, E – 0v

Sound, nature at other end point
    Q3 C – 4,0v, B – 2.5v, E – 1.8v
    Q4 C – 4.0v, B – 0v, E – 1.8v

Or maybe it's Q2 thats not properly set up?
    Q2 C – 7.1v, B – 2.8v, E – 2.3v

Does anyone have a clue? Do I maybe have to rebias the circuit becase i have used silicone transistors instead of germanium? Without the transistors Q3/4 I have the same signal on both sides of the nature pot.

    Anders

  7. The schematic for this layout is incorrect and therefore it does not work properly as the original CAF. Chek out Freestompboxes.
