Menatone None More Black
Here's the None More Black from Menatone. It uses cascading JFET stages to produce a high gain distortion tones of the 80s all the way to modern metal tones. There are apparently some versions with and without a charge pump to run at 18v off a 9v supply. I had room for the charge pump, so I included it.

Would a 7660s be good replacement for the Max1044 in this circuit?
ReplyDeleteYes, that should be fine.
DeleteThanks!
DeleteAnd thanks again for another clear lay-out. Your layouts are always my first choice. Compact and still roomy, with nice thick lines.
Schematic, please?
ReplyDeleteIt's over on FSB.

yay im stoked!! its cool to see it go all the way from the tracing step to it being on all the websites i love! best layout done of it so far and as you can see its set up for a full tone stack but he chose to use fixed resistors in a some places
ReplyDeleteCan i replace j202 with j201?
ReplyDeleteSocket and see! Also compare the datasheets online.
DeleteOk i'll try and thanks for the layout
DeleteBuilt it and it works but the 202's really need biasing so I'll replace the biasing resistors with sockets and experiment
ReplyDeleteIt works well
ReplyDeleteI replace j202 with j201
Thanks for this great layout man!
is the chargepump correct ? why i got 9V out not 18V output ? Please Check....
ReplyDeletefrom IC pin 3 should be grounded & IC pin 2 going to (-) 10uf elco
DeleteAh thanks for catching that. Not sure how I messed that up. It's fixed now.
DeleteHi guys, just a question: Nunggal wrote, that the (-) of the 10uF elec has to go to pin 2 of the IC. To me it´s going to the diodes (1n5817) and the positive side is going to pin 2 ? What´s correct? as shown or vice versa? tia
Deleteeverythings ok. built it up as shown in the layout and worked instantly (I used the J202 trannies)
Deleteprobably worth a mention, this is based off of the original smaller mxr sized version 1 NMB, im not positive if there was any changes that took place between mkl and the pcb 1590bb mkll version the only ones ive seen are the one this was traced from and the one other posted on fsb and i can tell you that the ones with a charge pump have 6 fets while the 9v version has only 5 of the 202's
ReplyDeleteWhich Jfet gets removed?
Deleteim only getting 9 volts no matter what voltage regulator i try
ReplyDeletedo i need to add links if leaving out the charge pump
ReplyDeleteYes. Easiest way would be to run a jumper from where pin 1 of the IC would be to where the cathode of the right 5817 diode would be.
Deletethank's! if it wasn't for you helping me out so often there's no way i'd understand this much after less then a year
Deletealso I'm tracing the amt heater od if your interested in taking a look when I'm done, looks like it'll be great for boosting jfet preamps
No problem! I'm definitely interested. Shoot me a schem when you've got it traced.
Deletestill hasn't arrived yet lol slowest shipping ever, even if he sent it from russia by boat. if I want to omit the pump do i need to jumper anything
DeleteLook up about 3 comments. ;)
DeleteLOL so sorry about that!

ReplyDeletehello good day, the capacitor of 22n in Q6 is wrong, according to the scheme is 4.7n, the value must be corrected, the peal I worked perfectly without any kind of noise or hiss
I made it without charge pump and ran it with 9V. I use 2sk303 instead of j202. It sounds more vintage-ish and less fullness.
