This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Can anyone explain routing to led, jacks and switches? This is my first pcb build and I'm having trouble
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple ways, but here's a good starting point:

DeleteCan I use 1k pot and 220uf cap for the pinch setting?
ReplyDeleteCap might be ok, but I wouldn't use a 1k pot for Pinch. It's supposed to be 500k. Using a 1k would basically act as a switch.
DeleteWhat if i use a 10k pot for wool and a 1M pot for pinch? I've only these at home and i'm too lazy to buy new ones
ReplyDeleteYou can try it. You can also try soldering in some resistors in parallel to lower the pot values. A 1M resistor from lug 1 to 3 on a 1M pot makes it 500k. For the 10k pot try something around 2.5k
DeleteThank you very Much!
Deletehello, comparing to other layouts, i see with put a diode (normal) and 1M resistence, and a third 100uF cap. Did you just followed a different schematic or was it a mod you decided to include?
ReplyDeleteThanks
The 1M resistor is a pulldown resistor so a 3PDT footswitch won't pop and the diode and 100µ cap are for polarity protection and power filtering.
DeleteThanks. Witchs pots will cause problems if I use log instead of linear?
DeleteThank you
Does anyone has any experience playing this with bass?
ReplyDeleteI use this with bass, it gives me lots of sustain, but the attack has an envelope to it that I can't dial out. Maybe by lowering the gain in the pedal? (I already have pinch and wool turned all the way down).
Thanks
Hi, should the pots be mounted from the solder side of the board? I'm new to this and unsure.
ReplyDeleteSolder side
DeleteOkay, Thanks. Also great blog, keep up the good work
DeleteBuilt two of these sans pinch control. For bass I have 220nf filter caps, bc549 in Q1 and 2N3904 in Q2. This gave me THE fuzz tone I've been searching for to complement my jazz bass. A guitar player friend wanted one too. For that I used 100nf filter caps, 2N3904 in Q1 and BC549 in Q2. This produced a very subtle triangle wave oscillation with the fuzz tone in a cool, desirable way. I wish I didn't hard solder the bass version when I figured out the guitar version. Hope this helps someone.
ReplyDeletePlease someone make the woollymammoth7 layout, how can i build it?
ReplyDeleteYou can add a Rog tonemender to this layout and remove the mammoth’s tone control!
DeleteIs this verified??
ReplyDeleteWould I have any problem if the 220nf and 10nf capacitors I put them in polypropylene? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi. I built this pedal, it works fine but it has way too much low end for my guitar sound. How can I fix it?
