Lovepedal Jubilee

Here's Lovepedal's Jubilee–pretty close circuit-wise to the Purple Plexi and Black Magic. Should be a pretty quick build. Note, if it sounds too dark, replace the 47nF cap with a 4.7nF cap. Schematic here.

    If I have to replace 390pF, what would you recommend, 220 or 470?

    1. Either is probably fine. Or you could put 2 caps in parallel to make your own 390p cap.

    1. Needs to be the 386. The TL072 or LM833 are a different kind of chip.

  4. BTW- I didn't have any issues with it sounding too dark...May be my bs170's, but my advice is to roll with the stock layout posted, and go from there.

  7. I built it, it has low gain like the tube screamer. I thought I had more gain like purple plexi or guvnor.

    How to increase the gain?

    2. So from what I've gathered, there are 2 main manufacturers of the 386, National (LM) and New Japan Radio Co (JRC). National makes several variants with the N suffix, usually followed by a number (-1, -3, -4), and the JRC version is a more general chip. I've heard of the N-3 chip working in this circuit.

    1. Yeah, you can experiment with different diodes and find what sounds best to you.

  11. if I replace the capacitors of 47uf by 100uf capacitors will it work with less noise?

    1. Not necessarily. If it sounds like you've got noise from the power rail, you could try adding a 10-100nF cap between power and ground.

    2. I think that I have the same problem. This cap should be soldered in the power jack? I tried it, but didn't change a thing. What else you wold you suggest to lower the noise?

    I built it, but it work similar to the noise gate :(. It fast cuts the sound. I used LM386L. Can you help me? Thanks. Sorry but i can't speak english so good. Greetings from Poland.

I finished this a few years ago, went back and made some changes following information on other diy sites. replace 22nf with 3.9nf, replace 47nf with 2.2nf. add 01 100r resistor at 9v input, add 01 100nf capacitor after 47uf at 9v input. now it sounds with a tone more like a jubilee (imho) and filters some of the noise. thanks again 😉

  19. LM386L works great / Verified.
    Amazing sound.

    IMPORTANT: LM386D / LM386L / LM386-N1 OUTPUT = 1/4 Watt

    OTHER LM386 TYPES HAS MORE OUTPUT (1/2W - 1W) AND THAT´S THE REASON THEY DOESN´T WORK THAT WELL IN THIS CIRCUIT.

  21. Verified!! Only change I made was I swapped out the A250k with an A10k. Gives more control over the gain which was chaos with a A250k.

    This is my favorite pedal thus far

    1. The 4001 is there for polarity protection, and the 4001 is better than a 914 in this application, but the 914 will work.
