DigiTech Bad Monkey

With all the recent talk and hype of the DigiTech Bad Monkey lately, and the sky rocketing prices of them on Reverb, a layout seemed to be in order. I used to gig with one of these and loved the Low control on it. Helped it stand out compared to other TS-style ODs. So it's worth throwing together in my book if you can't wait for prices on original units to come back to reality. This one's laid out for a 125B with top mounted jacks but you can probably squeeze it in a 1590B if you feel so inclined. Schematic over on FSB.

Saudações do Brasil.

  3. Ok, you pulled me back in. Gonna build it this weekend..

  4. hey again, wondering about the missing 10R resistor and 300uF capacitor

    1. Just power filters. not necessary for this to work....... which mine doesn't. Gain pot does nothing! the rest is fine.

  5. There is 6 transistors on the schematics, and 3 in your layout...

    1. I might be having a man look however i can see only three on the schematic.

    2. The other 3 are used for the buffered transistor switching. Do a regular True bypass with this.

  6. Could you please make board for this https://docs.pedalpcb.com/project/Cetus-PedalPCB.pdf

  7. Gain didn't work for me... replaced the 100n cap just below the diodes with a 100P, and it made a world of difference.. Sounds great, but still not worth the huge money ppl are spending on it.

  8. Is Q2 right? it's very weird the emitter receive 9V that way...

    1. Yeah it's drawn up that way on FSB, but I wondered if it's backward too. If it were me I'd flip it around. As always, sockets are your friends.

    2. Hi, could you make Brian Thornock's T60 Reverberator pedal (Ripthorn) ???

  9. Built it during the week, with the 1st version of the board where the gain is backwards, I was going to fix the board, but I may leave it and call it the "blog" mod...something i found interesting is I put a switch in to flip between 4148, 1n34 and BS170s. Didn't care for the 1n34, and did not really hear much different between the 4148 and Bs170, like l do in other pedals. Great job as usual! Thanks

    1. They're box film caps like these: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/capacitors/polyester-film-box-type-capacitors/1uf-100v-5-polyester-film-box-type-capacitor.html

    2. Thanks...so all the caps in gray marks as box types? And. Can i use polypropylene plastic film. Or does it have to be polyester?

    3. And lastly. A noob question lol. Is 1uf (104) ? Thanks man.

    4. They can be ceramic, polyprop, poly, or whatever non-polarized caps you want to use. The spacing though is specific to those polyester caps.

  12. Wow! Nice layout.go where the river flows madness!more power.

  13. After a quick glance looks like CAP18 and CAP10 are switched, aside the diodes 220pF, and aside the 22k resistor 47pF should be. At least that's what the notes in the schematic read.

  14. I have a problem with the gain, it doesn't work at all, moving the gain knob just ads more volume.
Voltages look okay, I tried different transistors, diodes, etc.
I'm using polarized capacitors for the 1uf caps, could that be the problem?

    1. replace that 100n cap below diodes to 100pf.... gain should then work. It did for me.

  15. Hola. Arme este pedal pero no funciona del todo bien, mucho rudio a ganancia pero poco drive, reemplacé la de100n x la de 100pf como dijo Massatony porque con la de 100n no funcionaba, alguien puede ayudarme?

  16. I built one of these using your layout recently, and ran all four pots through four X9C104 digital potentiometers, connecting them to an ESP32. I then wrote an Arduino sketch and accompanying Android code on MIT's App Inventor that allowed me to use my phone to control all four pots. Fun times! It's a bit shifty, and I couldn't quite "trust" that the pots were set to the right value. If I could make this setup work more consistently, it might save me from throwing my back out turning knobs
