SolidGoldFx If 6 Was 9

Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone! Here's a nice little modded Fuzz Face from SolidGoldFx. The switch selects between input caps and the Bias pot adjusts the voltages to Q2. Other transistors can be used beside the BC183C in the original. As usual, sockets are your friends. Easy fit in a 1590B.

  1. Thanks for your layouts, the best website for DIY. He graduated Friedman BE-OD, sounds great, now would be more Friedman Dirty Shirley, for happiness. There is the possibility of another site for Donate, no Paypal?

  2. This works, but I can't get it to sound good. I've tried dozens of transistor combinations, lower HFE (sub 100) sounds better, but still needs lots of experimenting still. Anyone have any luck with this?

    1. Are you using battery's?.I've found with fuzz face type circuits the battery's you use can be as important as transistor selection?. knowing that was often the difference between sounding great or regarding a build as a failure!

  3. Hi!
Are the shape of the transistors opposite on this picture? The BC183C I bought is EBC. Exactly the opposite I can see here.

    1. Typically they're like this:

Though different manufacturers may reverse it. Use sockets if you're not sure.

  4. Hey alexman
Dirty Shirley has been done. Do a Google search and buy the PCB's to reward
the people for their hard work.

  6. I used the BC183C with 420 hfe, and the sound is amazing, just perfect, this circuit saved my day!
