Here's HAO's take on the Distortion +/250 Preamp circuit. It uses LED clipping and features a Brilliance switch for normal, bright, and warm settings. A TL072 dual opamp is used, but on the original, only one side is used and the other is left unconnected. In this layout, I used the unused opamp for the voltage divider to give more stability there.
Verified, works better with 100kA vol pot. I'd try changin values for 1nF and 2.2 nF caps to get more contrast in the toggle switch function. Tried with TL072, KA4558 and JRC4558, the last was my choice, great sound.
I bet the correct volume pot value is log
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome!!! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
ReplyDeletethe vol pot should be Log 100k, and the toggle doesn't really give significant differences
ReplyDeleteHello guys ! super i'm going to make it !
ReplyDeleteIt works great, and Its also sounding great with 1n34a diodes instead of LED's .

ReplyDeleteChanged 1nF --> 470 pF, 2.2nF --> 4.7nF to get perceptible tonal contrast in brillance switch.
ReplyDeleteTotal newbie here, looking to build this as my first pedal - How do I wire in a DPDT footswitch?
ReplyDeleteOn the General Layout Notes page there's a diagram for 3PDT. Google also has a lot of info on footswitch wiring.
DeleteHi!!!! I made this effect, but I cannot achieve a sound difference between the normal and bright position. they sound the same
