Catalinbread Galileo Mk. II

The Catalinbread Galileo emulates an Vox AC30 and a Rangemaster treble boost in one to give the user tones like Brian May of Queen. The Galileo Mk. II differs from the Mk. I with fewer controls and in a much more pedalboard-friendly enclosure. It's a bit stripped down from the original, but sounds fantastic, and some say it's easier to dial in tones on the Mk. II over the Mk. I. Comparing the schematic with the Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra, the Galileo has a very similar structure. The input stage is similar (though not identical), the stacked JFET gain stages are nearly identical, as is the gain recovery stage after the tone control. Though, this makes sense since both are emulating British tube amps and Rangemaster variations. To board mount the pots, use right angle PCB mount types from the solder-side.

    1. It's over on FSB: http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26282&hilit=galileo

If you can't find a schem for one of my layouts on google, look over there.

  3. Hi dtgehring, built this today and although it sound great, the tone is almost useless passing 10 o'clock. Too much treble. Is that normal? There's a way to correct this? I'm using 2N4393. Thanks.

    1. I haven't built one myself, but maybe try using a lower value pot for the tone control. 500k is where I'd start.

  4. Thanks so much for this lay out. Just finished this build with 2N5457's and it sounds awesome! Nice throaty sound. The gain pot works backwards though so I think I will desolder that mounted pot wire it.

  8. i've built this pedal, and i had problem with the gain.i manage to fix this.q2 gate need to be grounded with a 470k resistor, also based with this schematic (http://guitar-fx-layouts.42897.x6.nabble.com/Catalinbread-Galileo-MKII-td20757.html)some components need to be replaced.
on q2 source 1.5k res must be 1k
the bottom 10nf cap must be 1nf
and th bottom right cap from 1uf to 2.2uf
