The Musket Fuzz is a variation of the classic Big Muff. Based on a Black Russian version, the Musket adds a modified LPB-1 booster (the "Pre" section) that pushes the standard BMP circuit. The "Focus" control allows you to pan between 2 different capacitors at the input of the first stage of the BMP. The Musket also adds a "Mids" control to the tone section, allowing you to dial in and be heard in the mix.
This layout allows you to use on-board, solder side mounted, right angle pots, though long-leg pots could be mounted on the component side as well.
Verified! Great option for a Russian Big Muff clone. If You have a volume drop at the Tone knob, It can be fixed by changing the 470pf capacitors for 560pf.
ReplyDeleteThanks for verifying!
ReplyDeleteVerified here, but the capacitor from the leg #1 of tone is wrong. the real value is 47nf not 10nf ( according the schematic)
ReplyDeleteThanks for catching that. It's C10 on the schematic I used. Haha Fixed the layout to reflect the right value.
DeleteIs there any way to reduce the noise? the pedal has ground noise on some occasions and also has RF noise :(.
Deleteoutside that, sounds amazing
regards
You could try breaking the ground loop. Use a knife to cut the copper on the ground fill. Best spot is probably where the text is on the transfer.
DeleteAll stoner and doom lover must have and build it! Mine is from another layout from russian guitar forum. 2 projects done, one using 2N5088 another is 2N5089. Both works well and not noisy, quiet and high gain fuzz! Really love it, Tight Metal and HM-2 be my next project, try to build from layout posted here :)
ReplyDeleteIs this the V2 or the V1? Do you know the difference between both circuits?
ReplyDeleteD1 - D4 is 4148 right ?
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteHi! Please help with LED setup. Voltage of LED and place)
ReplyDeleteDo you mean the bypass (on-off) led?
DeleteThat has nothing to do with the circuit.
ok so why is it they chose to use log pots for the sustain and volume.. no big muff was ever released with log pot's so its an odd choice they went with
ReplyDeleteSome early Triangle BMPs had log pots (including for the tone control). EHX back in the day was notorious for using whatever they had on hand or could get cheaply. Log taper pots are often really effective in gain and volume controls and that's very true with this circuit. They offer a sweep that often gives more control. However, because it's a Big Muff, you can easily get away with using linear pots.
ReplyDeleteIn clipping stage cap is after diodes. Muff has cap from transistors base, then clipping diodes to collector. I saw this difference in other schematics from net. I tested your schematic, it works, but is that thing correct? (Sorry for my english)))
ReplyDeleteIt works the same either way. I believe even EHX has built them both ways.
DeleteThanks) I'll try all the ways)
DeleteVerified too! Its great power Muff (just another in my collection)Used Mpsa 18 all!
ReplyDeleteAnother variant & much better as for me: Q1-germanium mp38,38a (any hfe even very low),Q2-Q5- bc 550c, 2n5088 = hfe 500-600, enough.
ReplyDeleteAku nganggo BC547c enak tenan suarane. Nois mung sitik. Cocok nggo main lagu barat. Ojo nggo nain lagu koploan po dangdutan ngono kui, iso disawati sandal karo sing nonton awakmu.
