Friedman Golden Pearl

Here's a good sounding lower gain overdrive from Friedman. Several options with this circuit with clipping and tone options on toggle switches. Fairly transparent, as they say.

    1. Alright! Speedy Pete is back in action!!!

Your ability to verify has always impressed me, man. I can hardly keep up with the projects I've started to build.

    2. Wad, first of all you have to build new garage for new pedals!

  2. For volume and tone, pls kindly advise where is lug 2 connect?

    1. Lug 2 Volume goes to output. Lug 2 tone ties in to Lug 1 tone.

    2. Tone - Lug 2 connects to the 47nF cap.
Volume - Lug 2 connects to output.

    3. And holes for these connections are already provided in both pcb and perf board images.

  3. Hi,
Thank you very much for sharing. Built it and works so cool, I like this.
If I change caps at hi-cut section with larger value, will it cut hi more or less? Could you please teach me?

  5. Need some help again, I can't get 1n5817 in shops, can I use 1n4001 instead, also, I just can get a B1M intead of the suggested A1M pot, can I just use the B1M pot?

    Thanks again for help

    1. A 4001 will work fine, as will a B1M. The sweep of the pot will just be different than the original.

  6. Surprisingly nice sound considering the bare bones look of the circuit, gets a lot closer to a klon/timmy than you would probably expect.

  9. First of all, thank you for this blog, it´s amazing and really help me. I build this project twice, I verified everything. And with the switches in the middle position (no clipping, and no hi cut), with the gain all the way up, it sounds a noise behind the note (I don´t know how to explain it), but it´s an unpleasent noise. Someone, or everyone have the same issue?. Any idea about what could be?. I tested it with several amplifiers and guitars, with the same result. Thank you

  11. Its true: HI CUT caps are, 2.2 nf instead of 22n,and 3.3n instead of 39nf! look at the scheme https://www.pedalpcb.com/docs/AurumDrive.pdf
    Nice over, tried LF 353n, JRC 4558, 4580, Opa 2604,NE 5532,TL072. Took JRC 4580.
Sound like Timmy or Vemuram, only with led clipping

  12. hi all, Can someone explain the meaning of the LED diodes on this pedal ?
I built the pedal and it sounds great but the LEDs don't light up. thanks

    1. They're just being used as clipping diodes. They're not supposed to light up necessarily.
