Here's a really great sounding overdrive from Hudson Electronics. The Sidecar is loosely based on the Tube Screamer with a 2-band Baxendall EQ and some interesting soft clipping. It uses a PNP germanium as a diode along side an LED and a 1N4148 in an asymmetrical configuration. I've got a fabricated version available in the store as well if you prefer and the schematic is over there in the build doc.
really nice over, built it 5 month ago & often use...Thanks, David!
ReplyDeleteYeahhhhh!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEffect&Layout is Back!!
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for you for months.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have a stupid question. Doesn’t LED for clipping diode have polarity?
ReplyDeleteYes, the flat side is (-)
DeleteRealy thanks for your explanation!
DeleteWoohoo welcome back!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the specs for the Ge transistor? Hfe and so on...
ReplyDeletereally it doesn't matter, there is use it like diode, pnp.
DeleteI went with a generic PNP Ge that was originally purchased for a Rangemaster. The circuit works without it but it seemed like the Rangemaster Ge added a very slight tonal coloration.
DeleteI just finished building it. It works perfect-VERIFIED!!!
ReplyDeleteplease check/fix your Sound Saw layout.
ReplyDeletethe Ge transistor can AC128?
