Here's and interesting 3-band EQ from HomeBrew Electronics. They say it's like adding a second channel to your amp, cleaning up a dirty signal with the level turned down. Think the opposite of an overdrive or distortion pedal. Should fit nicely in a 1590B or 125B. Schematic for reference.
the only problem is that i cant find easy the ic of all circuits here in Greece!
ReplyDeleteCould use a TL072 as replacement, much more common apparently... i googled 'JRC4558 equivalent' and that was most common. I too am wondering if that would be an ok replacement as i might build this one. Very handy tool to have on the pedal board.
DeleteTl072, tl082, rc4558, ne5532, etc...
DeleteI believe the closest is probably NJM4558, and plenty are available on Digi-Key.
DeleteJRC = "Japan Radio Corporation"
NJM = "New Japan Media"
I think they are actually the same company, just changed names.
Interesting!! Shall we go?
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll give it a shot
So glad to finally see this. I used to own this and regret getting rid of it. It was the smartest pedal on my board
ReplyDeleteIve built this, and everything works like it should, but its a little noisy. Noisier than i think it should be. Ive swapped ICs with no luck, and it only gets slightly better when powered by a battery. Would bigger electro caps help? Im using small ones but they are still rated at 50v. Any help would be appreciated. This circuit cleans up a dirty amp beautifully. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou could try a larger cap or add a like a 100nF cap from 9v to ground. That might helps as well. Is it boxed yet?
DeleteHave you put it into box?
DeleteI have not boxed it yet. You mean a 100nf cap in parallel with a larger 100uf cap from 9v to grnd? Ive seen that before but when testing on my breadboard, i couldnt hear any differance. Will it matter more once its boxed?
DeleteVerified! woeks perfect
ReplyDeleteVerified! works perfect!
ReplyDeleteVerified. Bad with ss amp, but just perfect with Marshall jcm800 2204. From pre-amp drive on 8-9 to clean with minimum volume drop. Very usefull pedal.
ReplyDeleteI recently built this and it performs well. I mostly followed the layout but did move a few things around. I later realized I had used a 27k resistor instead of the 27ohm. Quite a difference in value but as I said it works well. So I'm wondering how this affects the tone/output/etc. Can I get some input/opinions on why I should (or should not) take the time to "fix" my error and change it to the correct value. Thanks for your input and thanks for this wonderful blog.
ReplyDeleteDoes this also boost signal?
ReplyDeleteThanks. To anyone building this off the Perf guide just note that the 470pf capacitor on the bass circuit is in the wrong place.
ReplyDeletewhat's the right position? i'm about to build it
DeleteHi, if you follow the circuit to the right of the perf guide you can see where it should be.
DeleteI have finished this project, but the level is too small, is there any way to improve it

ReplyDeleteVerified.. works good... is there any way to increase bass?
ReplyDeleteBass and mid arent doing much of anything
ReplyDeleteTreble works great
Anyway to fix it?
Sry it works good
DeleteSomehow my 47k and 4.7k were in same place i accidently replaced all 4.7k for 47k..
It works like charm now
I bought a clone off reverb and it doesn't cut any gain/distortion at all eq part works ok guy didn't even want it back when i requested a refund so i was wondering if any one could tell me where to start looking for the problem or should i just replace everything (chips,diodes) ect
