JHS Angry Charlie V3

Here's the newer version of the Angry Charlie with the 3-band EQ. Pretty much the Crunch Box with a 3-band Baxandall tone stack (similar to this) tacked onto the end. Pots are board mounted and it should squeeze nicely into a 1590B.

  1. Do you have a link for the schematic? Thank you very much!

  2. Just an idea, you could an a switch to select clipping, like the Andy Timmons version.
3 position switch with center off.
Top position is 50w (original led clipping), center position is no clipping, and bottom position is diode (bat41?) clipping

Thanks for one more great layout, I'll probably try to build this in the future

    1. i will do that, i´ll apply de mod on the dpdt switch, it doesnt need any mod on the pcb.

    2. Great, I think it's as easy as replacing the LEDs with a connections to the switch.

  3. Noooo... I just finished the version 2 :( . What's the difference between the V2 & V3? How can I mod muy version 2?...

    1. The difference is just the tonestack. I think it's better to build a new version then modding your current

    2. Yeah, the tone stack is completely different and adds an extra op amp. You'd be hard pressed to modify the V2 board into the V3.

  4. Built it yesterday, works great. Also added clipping options with switch and it became a tight fit, so "squeeze nicely" is correct =)
    Thanks buddy!

    1. Are you using the right type of pot (A=logarhythmic)?

  8. Is there not a missing 1K resistor at the input, after the 22nF, that creates a low pass filter with the 1nF ?

    1. im having problems with the bass control maybe its because of that resistor missing

  12. Hi friends, can you help me with a problem please.
    I don't have R 22k, I just have R 24k, can I use that value?

    Regards!!!

    1. You can actually use just about whatever value you want in place of the 22k resistors. They're forming the voltage divider. As long as they're the same value, they'll create 4.5v. People generally use values in the 10k-100k range.

    1. there is a mistake on the first two components on the board that are the low pass filter, there is a 1k resistance missingin series with the firs 22nf cap on the input

    2. there is a 1k resistor missing after the 22nf cap on the input, and also the 6.8k resistor on the treble pot replace it for a 10k, i also used a NE5532 instead of the lm 833 and OPA2134 instead of tl072

    3. I made it as it was, I had no problems with the tone stack, also put a presence knob at the end as in the first version.

  20. Can this circuit be run at 18v? The JHS manual says it can fwiw

    1. It can be as long as your caps are rated high enough. Generally only an issue with electrolytic caps. I usually use 35v or 50v

    1. There is a "transfer image library" page on this website - you'll find the proper files to print an etch there.

Thanks for this. jut finish building it.
Does anyone have a volume drop problem?
I feel the angriness in the sound but not enough volume coming through. Any idea how to boost the volume?
