Wampler Paisley Drive

Got a request for this one. Another take on the classic Tube Screamer built for Brad Paisley. The traditional input/output buffers have been swapped out for JFET-based buffers, and there are two toggles for Presence and EQ (mids). Should be able to squeeze it into a 1590B.

  1. Just a heads up: I built one of these up on stripboard, and although there is buffering within the circuit, I had to run a separate buffer pre-input to prevent oscillation at certain setting. I didn't try running shielded in/output wiring, so that could be another potential fix for that. Just something to consider when planning your enclosure. Sounds great though!

  3. This one works and sounds great...Had to use Lug 2 of the Volume pot for output instead of Lug 3 for some reason, though.

  4. hi
first sorry for my english i am from austria!
one question: the 511Kohm resistor is for biasing the j102 ?
and can i replace the two 511k resistors with trimmers?
maby iś easier to adjust the voltage.( about 4.5V right? )

    greetings from austria

  6. Just finished this up today, as a longtime project sitting on the shelf.
Definitely a different kind of drive, and definitely suited more for single-coils than humbuckers. You can GET BY with humbuckers, but you have to turn up the presence & tone.
NOTE: I used a Type 2 on/on/on DPDT switch, and needed to move the Mid 1 wire to pole 4 and the Mid 6 wire to pole 3. Wiring it up to poles 1 & 6, the left and right toggles were way dark/bassy and the middle setting was way bright. Reversing those two as noted above made it way more usable, and I'm assuming that's how it should be wired.
