Happy Fuzz Friday! Revisiting one of the early layouts of the blog–John Lyon's Scarab Deluxe. Been meaning to draw it up with board mounted pots for a while. Ian Nelson sent me his version and with a little modification we can check that off the bucket list. Great sounding fuzz based on MicTester's Hot Silicon.
OK! I already have sound (and quite high), the problem was even the lack of the resistance of 10k, but it seems that there is something else that is not well.
Following the schematic that is in the site FSB, it is necessary to remove the resistance of 10k in the collector of Q4, stay only the one of 1k, and by one of 10k between collector and base Q2 Q3 and 9V. Doing this can be considered checked, mine is already working with BC239C HFE 430, and I put a capacitor of 47pf, between the collector and emitter of Q2 and Q3, round the sound a bit, it's worth trying. Thanks for the great layouts, when you can fix it.
Regarding a newly traced original scarab there's a 2n2F capacitor missing between the collector and base of Q2. Since there's some space I added additional pads and traces to add the missing the cap in this layout using inkscape. There's enough room for a 2,54mm spacing. Schematic can be found here: http://guitar-fx-layouts.42897.x6.nabble.com/Basic-Audio-Scarab-Deluxe-td44267.html
Sound by Brett Kingman is good! And very easy schematic! Good!
ReplyDeleteAwesomeee!!
ReplyDeleteit doesn't work.Q2 has no power.
ReplyDeletemaybe,need 10k from D9 to G9.
great sounds!
I'm having the same problem, it seems that a 10k resistor is missing between the Q2 collector and Q3 base, and the 9V.
