Came across this design in researching a different project and thought I'd draw it up. It uses 3 transistors and doesn't take up a lot of space, so you should be able to fit it in a 1590A or add it to another pedal. More info can be found here. Sounds like you can use pretty much any medium-high gain PNP/NPN pair for Q2-3 (2N5087/2N5088, BC560/BC550, etc).

ReplyDeleteWorks just fine for me...
DeleteMark it verified!! Sounds pretty good. Anybody know how I would go about increasing the volume. I tried a NOS 2n5060 and it gave me a signal but was about half the volume of the j201s. I got the j201s from guitarpcb.com for an upcoming sunn-t build I need to finish.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say 2n5459 not 2n5060....
DeleteSo i use this in the Effects loop or infront of an amp.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is best suited for when you're recording without an amp or playing into a headphone amp. But for a live rig, I'd try it in both places and see what sounds better to your ears.
DeleteI'm considering boxing up one of these together with a noisy cricket 1/2W amp. Should i run the noisy cricket before or after the cabsim? Would the amp output would be too loud for the cabsim input?
ReplyDeleteCabsim into the amp.
DeleteSchematic link?
ReplyDeleteWhat type of 1uF cap?
ReplyDeleteNon-polarized film preferably
