Where would DIY pedal building be without Jack Orman? Got a request for his Son of Screamer, which is a pretty standard Tube Screamer but with the input and output buffers removed. Pots are board mounted and I added a extra diode in the feedback loop for asymmetrical clipping if you want to go that route. Original schematic and article can be found
here.
If you want to have symmetrical clipping, populate the diodes like this:
Thanks bro!!
ReplyDeleteIf I wanted to make a switch for symmetrical/asymmetrical, could I just connect pads E2/E3 to the lugs of a SPST switch? That would effectively remove the third diode from the circuit right?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that should work.
DeleteCool, thanks!
Deletestill can't figure out how to mod it using SPST switch... haha
Deletea question (sorry for my bad english) what ts is this 8 o 9?
ReplyDeletethanks!
Neither. The differences between the 808 and the 9 are in the output buffer (which has been removed here).
DeleteSymmetrical clipping sounds best to my ear, and also replace 220nF with 100nF for a brighter tone. Simple yet great sounded OD. Awesome!
