Here's a great sounding reverb designed by CultureJam, built around the typical Belton BTDR-2 reverb brick. I've laid it out for onboard pots and the BTDR-2 being mounted from the solder-side of the board.
Thanks for posting this one. Any crazy chance that you could do a layout for the Belton BTDR-1? I think this pedal was originally designed around the first brick and I still have a couple left. Thanks either way!
I meant, any reverb pedal without BTDR. My Biyang Rv-8 doesn't have any of it. I really want to build a reverb pedal to replace it, coz it has few problems I couldn't handle
So I am a year late on this but hopes it helps someone. I notice the schematic (https://hotbottles.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/box_of_hall_schematic_v1-1.png) shows a full size 7805 regulator not a 78L05 which is a low power version of the reg, its possible that the 78L05 is not supplying enough current for the circuit hence the overheating and failure to work. I would replace the reg with a 7805.
Hi ! I can't get this one to work. I can hear my guitar with the verb if i push the max volume on my amp.. the regulator 75l05 gets really hot. Could you check it please? Thanks
It follows Culture Jam's schematic correctly. I'm wondering if your regulator doesn't like being connected to the digital ground of the Belton brick. On several other reverb circuits using the brick pins 2 and 4 are connected to ground, but in this one, pin 2 (the digital ground) is only connected to the ground pin of the regulator. So try jumping pin 2 of the brick to the ground plain.
Cant' make it work neither. I replaced 3 times 78L05, still gets very hot everytime; even with pin2 jumped to ground. i think there is a problem with this schematic, can you check it please?
Maybe you should check it with that : http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.fr/2012/04/box-of-hall-reverb-culturejam.html This one is verified, and i see an aditional 100nf cap & 1n4001 on yours. MUST be a power problem since a hear the verb a little bit but the regulator is very hot.
Marks layout follows the same schematic. I checked. The extra components in my layout are for power filtering and polarity protection. Have you tried replacing your regulator? Do you have it oriented the correct way?
Yes, it is oriented the correct way. I changed it 3 times, and other people seems to have the same problem.. It just gets hot 2 seconds after powering up the board..
That's my thought as well, but on CultureJam's original schematic (linked above) it goes to digital ground only. And apparently even if it is connected to the rest of the ground plane there are still issues. I reached out to CJ and he just said to check the orientation of the 5v regulator. I'm planning on building this myself and seeing if I can sort out the problem, but haven't had time yet.
Because in the schematic CultureJam has that going to the digital ground of the Belton. Feel free to jump them to analog ground if it makes you feel better.

Super verified! I built this one a few weeks ago... great sounding reverb. I also add the feedback mod, but a replace the feedback pot with a SPST toggle since I realize that I can control the feedback with the ¨Reverb¨ pot. About the regulator, yes, it gets hot, but it won't get on fire and also supports a maximum of 50ºC. I also checked other pedals with 78L05 (as delays, for example) and gets hot too... So, AWESOME as usual.
I really thought I added a comment to this earlier today but I don't see it now.
I built it as it's shown and it fired up right away for me. No hot parts or anything. I do however have a notable volume boost. I am curious if anyone knows for sure what part to change and what to change it to? I would like to add a trimmer instead just in case. I am guessing it might have to do with the 33k going to the out?
Also curious if anyone knows how I could potentially make the reverb a little more extreme / wet? It sounds really good as is but a bit more would be nice to have available.

ReplyDeleteCheckout the Belton website and compare the pinouts of the two bricks. It would add a little to the off board wiring but should be doable
Delete...And any chance to have a layout with the Feedback control instead of the Damp one? Still having the same disposition of this layout, please XD
ReplyDeleteI didn't see a schematic with a Feedback control. If you have one please share it.

Please, that would be great... I really like your layouts
Deleteis there any layout for reverb pedal without BTDR?
ReplyDeleteI cannot find one in my country, the BTDR..
DeleteYou can't build this one without the Belton brick. It's the whole source of the actual echo/reverb.

Try the Ersatz Verben. It uses a PT2399
DeleteHi! I've made this pcb and doesn't work... 78l05 gets really hot

Deletethis one has great reverb sounding, wish someone could help mark it verified
ReplyDeletescrew this, I'll make this one verified!

Deletecant make mine work. I use btdr-2 medium, guess that would not be a problem

ReplyDeleteI've gone over the layout several times now and it checks out to this schematic.

Not sure why it's not working... :\
Maybe you should check it with that : http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.fr/2012/04/box-of-hall-reverb-culturejam.html

DeleteReplacing the low power 78L05 reg with a full size 7805 regulator as the schematic calls for would fix a lot of problems.

ReplyDeleteHello, I am not sure if that is the problem but, pin 2 on 78L05 should go directly to ground right?

ReplyDeleteThanks man!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThere is an extra 100nF between +9V and ground in parallel with the 100µF, right ?
Why do you add it ?
It's not on the original schematic neither in tagboard layout.
Thanks for the reply.
Extra power filtering. Common with delay and reverb effects.
DeleteCan anyone tell me if this has true bypass?
ReplyDeleteIt is true bypass
DeleteHi! I wonder how can i add mix pot to this cirquit! Is it possible?
ReplyDeleteHi! The resistors and the voltage divider capacitor are missing! (R1, R2 and C2 in schematic.) There is no reference voltage.
ReplyDeleteThey're there. They feed the VR into pin 3 of the opamp, which buffers and outputs it via pins 1-2 to the rest of the circuit.
DeleteMy bad...
ReplyDeleteWhat type of capacitor is square 1uf cap? Is it electrolytic??
ReplyDeleteThey're non-polarized film caps. I usually get them from Tayda
Deletehttps://www.taydaelectronics.com/1uf-100v-5-polyester-film-box-type-capacitor-jfj.html
Can i use this capacitor???
ReplyDeletehttps://www.rawlix.com/product/1uf400v-non-polar-capacitor-6372439399514913872&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiv1szzn8nuAhVq7XMBHYSSDKgQ_AUoAXoECBAQAQ&biw=412&bih=766&dpr=2.63#imgrc=5vDxW4ozDWSR_M
That cap is rated at 400v and will work, but will be much larger than the space allotted for it in the layout. 100v would be better.

I can't find drill template, i'm wrong or you don't made it?)
